Martínez-Oliva invites the socialist group to vindicate before the central and regional administration the unfair treatment that Murcia receives (17/02/2020)

The Councilor for Economic Management invites him to demand before his colleagues in Madrid a better deal for the seventh city of Spain, "since it is the State that has to resolve the proper and improper powers of the municipalities."

The Councilor for Citizen Security and Economic Management of the City of Murcia, Eduardo Martínez-Oliva, responds to the Municipal Socialist Group that "naturally we are going to claim to the Autonomous Community an increase for the municipality over the distribution of income."

In this sense, the mayor insists that "the transfers of the State and the Autonomous Community for the economic sustainability of the municipality of Murcia are insufficient and unfair, for which we must all municipal representatives, regardless of ideology, be belligerent in this matter before any administration. "

Similarly, Martínez-Oliva reminds the Socialists that the new model of local financing, which until now has been demanded again and again by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, is the responsibility of the Government of the nation, "which is the that it really has to resolve the proper and improper powers of the town halls and specify how they are financed ".

In addition, the municipal head of Economic Management says that this new financing model has to correct the existing inequalities between municipalities from the complementary funding fund for municipalities.

For this, it indicates that "we must not have only a unidirectional vision, since the greater participation that the municipalities perceive for their financing comes from the income of the State".

"I would like to invite the Municipal Socialist Group to demand a better deal for the seventh city of Spain before its colleagues in Madrid, since the latest delivery data to the accounts of the Ministry of the Supplementary Financing Fund places Murcia at position 48 between municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants, "Martínez-Oliva points out, adding that" it is not a receipt that we only receive 226.58 euros per inhabitant, while cities such as Barcelona receive 687.28; Madrid 499.54; Zaragoza 404.29; Malaga 421.28; and Cartagena 234.35.

"Both Mayor Ballesta and the councilman himself have stated time and again that we must compensate for this unfair treatment with Murcia and we will continue to do so," says the mayor.

"I thank the socialist group for the concern that seems to show why Murcia have the financing that corresponds to them, but we regret that these are only directed to the Autonomous Community and do not have the courage to plant them before the central administration, which is what holds the key of legislative changes to solve this problem, "he adds.

In the words of Martínez-Oliva, "political follow-up and complacency have never been good companions when it comes to acting in defense of the legitimate and fair interests of the citizens of Murcia."
