Murcia celebrates tomorrow the inauguration of the new Itinerary of the Wall with music, workshops and guided tours (15/02/2020)

Murcia celebrates tomorrow the opening of the route of the Itinerary of the Wall of Murcia with music, guided tours and workshops.

The day will take place in the morning and seeks to inform Murcia about this route that allows you to discover the heritage of Medieval Murcia, following the path of the old wall.

The program, organized by the Department of Culture and Heritage Recovery, will host three guided tours (at 11.30, 12 and 12.30) under the name 'Touring the Wall', whose places have already been sold out

Attendees will know how they were and what they hide the Door of the Church of San Nicolás, the Arab remains of the wall of Calle Sagasta, Calle del Pilar, the remains of the Wall of Verónica, Glorieta de España, Calle Apóstoles, the Church of San Juan de Dios (located where the Alcazar was), the Post Office Market (location of the old Bull Gate), Calle Cánovas del Castillo and Plaza de Santa Eulalia.

An actor will intervene on the route in Calle del Pilar accompanying the group to the Plaza de Santa Eulalia.

In addition, there will be three outdoor concerts in the morning.

At 1145 hours 'La tarota' will perform on Calle del Pilar, at 13 hours it will be the turn of 'Nova Chirimia' in La Glorieta, and the Musical Ensemble and the Choral Discantus will end, at 14 hours, in the Plaza Santa Eulalia

The program is completed with workshops, which will take place between 11.30 am and 2.30 pm

Thus, you can learn to create candles with natural wax and pinch candle holders in the Glorieta de España, perform medieval writing on Calle del Pilar or make medieval sweets in the Plaza Santa Eulalia.

"With this action we want to publicize this strategic project that involves the recovery of the surface layout of the old wall, with a distance of 3 kilometers along the city, which allows to know the part that remains in the subsoil and contemplate the visible wall that has been excavated, "said Pacheco

The heritage of Murcia is connected by an invisible cord that is the City Wall, a large defensive structure whose origins date back to the ninth century and had 90 towers that formed a perimeter of 2,000 m, as well as its different doors: of Orihuela, of the Souk, of the Bridge, of Glassmakers, of the Bull, of the Market, of Santa Eulalia, of the Sun ...

Inside the Medina, and parallel and bordering with the Wall, the most important activities of the Medieval Murcia followed - such as commercial exchanges in the artery of the Souk - and the most important buildings were established (the Aljama Mosque, the Alcazaba , mosques, bathrooms, workshops, etc.).

The legacy of this legacy remains in this axis with the buildings of greater artistic, architectural and cultural interest of the current Murcia.
