José Guillén: "Children are the future, so we are going to promote environmental care from the classroom, raising awareness among young people about their importance through the Forest Plan."

The Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, today attended the planting of new trees at the San Andrés de Murcia school, an activity framed within the 2030 Forest Plan that will allow the center to have new areas of natural shade.

"We have proposed to move from 100,000 to 200,000 trees in the coming years and for this we need the involvement of all Murcia society," said Councilman José Guillén, who adds that "children are the future, so we will encourage from the classroom, care for the environment, raising awareness among young people about its importance through the Forest Plan â€.

The center, from Infant to Primary, has joined the environmental strategy of the City Council with the planting of mulberry trees that will provide natural shade with the patio of the San Andrés school.

The students received a didactic explanation about the development of the activity and its contribution to the natural environment and then proceeded to plant the trees with the help of the municipal technicians.

In this context, more than 20,000 schoolchildren in the municipality of Murcia will have new shadow spaces thanks to the Foresta Plan, which will involve the planting of 2,000 new specimens spread over a hundred schools.

Specifically, plantations have already been carried out in the courtyards of the Pintor Pedro Cano centers, in the hamlet of El Palmar;

Juan XXIII school, of El Ranero;

CEIP Juan Carlos I, from Llano de Brujas;

the nursery of La Paz, in El Palmar;

and Our Lady of the Arrixaca.

Urban environmental and landscape route

In the words of José Guillén, “the Forest Plan represents the roadmap that will mark urban environmental and landscape planning in the next decade, with which the City of Murcia will double the number of trees in the municipality, reaching 200,000 copies†.

This municipal strategy is being developed in other environments such as Murcia Río, in the districts, parks and gardens, medium and roundabouts, in addition to Terra Natura.

Among the trees, priority is given to the planting of native varieties, which adapt to the climate of the municipality and its thermal individuals –Murcia is characterized by having a large temperature difference between day and night, up to 14 degrees, during the Spring and autumn months.

In addition, at the time of being planted, deciduous trees will have preference, since they reduce the effects of global warming and nourish and fertilize the soil, and bet on planting specimens at street level - lined with alignment -, with the objective to provide more shadow spaces to pedestrians.

In urban environments, trees reduce the effects of climate change and lower CO2, lower temperature, favor biodiversity and beautify the landscape.
