Law students represent the UMU for the second time in a Public International Law competition (14/02/2020)

Law school students represented the University of Murcia for the second time in the prestigious competition of Public International Law 'Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition'.

This is the largest trial simulation contest in the world, with participants from more than 680 law schools.

The competition consists in the simulation of a fictitious dispute between two states for a conflict of legal news before the International Court of Justice, judicial body of the United Nations.

The competition, which this year reaches the 61st edition worldwide and celebrates its tenth anniversary in Spain, takes place annually in Washington DC every spring.

The contest consists of a phase of realization of 'Memorials' written by both the plaintiff and the defendant and an oral phase whose rounds have been held this year in Barcelona during the month of February.

The UMU Law School team gained a high level of knowledge of Public International Law and excellent writing and oral writing skills, entirely in English.

The teams from the Carlos III University and the Pompeu Fabra University passed to the final, the first being the winner.

The UMU team was made up of students Justyna Smela Wolski, Lorena Tristante Pellicer, Miguel Olmedo Castaño, David Llorens Fernández and Carlos Martínez García, and students Andrés Martínez Barberi and Fernando Castillo Botero participated as advisors.

All this under the guidance of professors Dorothy Estrada Tanck and María Asunción Cebrián Salvat, of Public and Private International Law, respectively.

The professor of Public International Law and International Relations María José Cervell Hortal and Cesáreo Gutiérrez Espada, emeritus professor of the same subject, also served as consultants.
