Free PDO Yecla wine tastings begin at the headquarters of Murcia Gastronomic Capital (13/02/2020)

José Ballesta presented this cycle, which will start tomorrow and will run until October, with a total of 17 tastings aimed at the general public and hospitality experts.

The Central Office of Murcia Gastronomic Capital and the Hall of Mirrors of the Romea Theater will be the stages of these events.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the mayor of the municipality of Yecla, Marcos Ortuño, and the vice president of the PDO Yecla, Ramón Castaño, presented this morning at the Central Office of Murcia Gastronomic Capital, located on the ground floor of the Romea Theater , the cycle of DOP Yecla tastings, which start tomorrow, February 14, at 7:00 p.m.

"Murcia will host throughout this year of Gastronomic Capitality numerous free events to bring all raw materials and products of our land to all Murcia and visitors, as is, in this case, DOP Yecla wine," said José Ballesta, who added that "we work for a common project, in which the 45 municipalities of the Region must claim the pride and identity of belonging to this land."

Specifically, this cycle will host a total of 17 tastings, of which 14 will be directed to the general public and 3 to hospitality professionals, in which the eight wineries belonging to the Yecla PDO will participate, which each year allocates around 90% of its production to foreign trade in more than 40 countries.

The Monastrell grape, main protagonist

The main protagonist of this cycle will be the Monastrell grape, although other varieties authorized by the DO that are part of the Yecla wines will also participate.

The first to open the cycle tomorrow will be Bodegas Castaño, which will be followed by Purísima wineries, Antonio Candela wineries, Conde de Montornés wineries, Evine wineries and vineyards, Barahonda wineries, Casa Boquera wineries and Casa de las Especias vineyards.

The vertical tastings - when the wines that are tasted are the same but of different harvests -, destined to professionals of the hospitality sector, will be carried out in the Hall of Mirrors of the Romea Theater.

Each event of this cycle will last approximately one hour and a half.

Dates of PDO Yecla tastings in February and March

-Wineries Castaño, on February 14, from 19 to 21 hours.

- Barahonda Wineries, on February 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

-Wine Evine, on February 28, from 19 to 21 hours.

- Bodegas Conde de Montornés, on March 6, from 19 to 21 hours.

-Wineries Casa Boquera, on March 20, from 19 to 21 hours.

-Wineries Castaño, on March 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The cycle will also take place during the months of April, May, June, September and October.

Bullas and Jumilla wine will also have prominence

The Central Office will also host Bullas wine tastings, on March 13 and 27, which will resume during the months of May, June and September, and PDO Jumilla tastings, which are held every Thursday of the year, whose registration is Must perform on the web events.murcia.es.

Likewise, the Artillery Barracks will host a wine show at the beginning of March, which will also feature Bullas.
