Development Cooperation finances a project aimed at improving the lives of children and women in Kanzenze (12/02/2020)

The mayor of Seniors, Disability and Development Cooperation, Paqui Pérez, has held a meeting with members of the Mainel Foundation and with sister Victoria Braquehais, of the Purity of Mary congregation, taking advantage of her visit to Murcia, to assess the positive results of the project for the promotion of vulnerable women and access to sport and culture for children and young people in the rural population of Kanzenze.

This project - funded by the Development Cooperation service for an amount of 10,206 euros - has allowed the creation of a recreational-cultural space for children of this population located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, from which they are already being programmed a series of extracurricular activities directed by teachers and monitors: football, volleyball, basketball, music, choir and other cultural activities.

Likewise, this development initiative is making it possible to improve the quality of life of women in vulnerable situations in Kanzenze.

They receive help and training so that they can undertake agricultural activities, livestock and those linked to small businesses that also allow to boost the economy of the area.

The purpose of this project is to avoid prostitution as a survival measure and to favor the schooling of the children of women in situations of vulnerability and risk of exclusion, thus breaking the poverty chain.
