Available online the book written by UMU researchers 'Inventors and patents in the Region of Murcia' (12/02/2020)

The researchers from the University of Murcia (UMU) Manuela Caballero and Pascual Santos are the authors of the volume of the Murcianos collection for the memory dedicated to a part often ignored of our heritage: inventors and patents, and which can now be freely consulted.

'Inventors and patents in the Region of Murcia.

An industrial and technological heritage ', which is available here, is a book that contributes to the recovery and creation of the Memory of Industrial and Technological Heritage of the Region of Murcia.

The monograph, which was presented in Cieza last December, has been edited by the Center for Historical Studies and Local Research Foundation of the Region of Murcia with the collaboration of the CajaMurcia Foundation and the Regional Assembly of Murcia and has a prologue made by the professor of History and Economic Institutions of the UMU José Miguel Martínez Carrión.

This is a work that arises from the research carried out based on the information contained in the Historical Archive of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (AHOEPM).

More than a book on patents

According to the authors themselves, "patents tell us about the state of technology, the objectives of the inventors with their attempts at constant improvement and improvement and how they would influence the industry and society of the moment."

Key information to, in their words, "reconstruct part of contemporary history and what was the contribution of these people to the industrialization and modernization of the Region of Murcia."

The book is, therefore, more than a study and complete example of patents and inventors between 1884 and 1966. According to the UMU Professor of Modern History Francisco Chacón Jiménez and the secretary of the José Jesús García Hourcade Center for Historical Studies " we are facing a very lucid and bright page of the history of the Region of Murcia, written with the effort of numerous anonymous characters, so far, who contributed, each in their specific field, to industrial, technological and economic development, not only of the region but on a universal scale. "
