The photovoltaic park of Baños y Mendigo Algibicos will prevent the emission of 8,400 tons of CO2 annually (11/02/2020)

José Ballesta discovers the plate of this photovoltaic plant, whose works will end in October, which will have an area of 85 hectares and will consist of 130,000 panels.

This morning they started work in this park, the first in Spain of the Swiss company EKZ, which is present in countries such as Germany, France and Portugal.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, discovered this morning the plate of the Algibicos photovoltaic plant, located in the Murcian district of Baños and Mendigo, on the occasion of the start of the works of this new photovoltaic park, which will have an area of 85 hectares and About 130,000 photovoltaic panels.

“The City Council of Murcia has a firm commitment to sustainability and the environment, one of the development vectors endorsed by the Social Council of the city.

The commitment to clean and renewable energy sources allows reducing the emission of pollutant and greenhouse gases, â€said José Ballesta, who added that“ the installation of this photovoltaic park, Algibicos, will prevent the emission of up to 8,400 tons of carbon dioxide annually".

The installation of the Algibicos park, whose works are scheduled to be completed in October 2020, is a performance aligned with the Municipal Clean Air strategy, which is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality.

Clean Air

The strategy 'Clean Air' of the City of Murcia includes actions such as the creation of an own air pollution program together with the UMU Safety and Health Research Group, the free pruning service to the huertanos to avoid agricultural burns, the gradual renewal of the bus fleet and acquisition of new vehicles fueled by biofuels, hybrids or electric vehicles, creation of deterrent parking lots, periodic checks of gas emissions from vehicles in circulation, together with the Ecological Patrol of the Local Police (more than 1,000 vehicles per year), pedestrianization of 250,000 m2 and 4 areas of restricted traffic (267 streets), the Greenway, new network of cycle paths, strategy of the Electric Vehicle, 2030 Forest Plan and sustainable lighting, among other measures.

Energy expenditure equivalent to 25,000 homes

Algibicos will have a capacity of 49.08 MW and a production of 93 GWh / year, which would be equivalent to the energy expenditure of 25,000 homes.

In addition, this plant will prevent the annual emission into the atmosphere of 8,400 tons of carbon dioxide, 17,575 kilograms of sulfur dioxide and 12,300 kilograms of nitrogen oxide.

The first plant of the Swiss firm EKZ in Spain by the hand of Murcia-based company Synergia

The Algibicos project is promoted by the Swiss company EKZ Renewables in collaboration with Synergia Energy Solutions, the Murcian company expert in managing renewable energy projects, which devised the Algibicos initiative at the end of 2015.

For its part, EKZ Renewables is the subsidiary of the Swiss electricity company EKZ, which is present in countries such as Germany, France and Portugal, and participates with minority parties in projects in Italy and at the Tubosol solar thermal plant in Calasparra, Murcia.

The Algibicos park in the Murcian district of Baños y Mendigo is the first renewable energy plant of this Swiss company in Spain.

About thirty photovoltaic installations in the municipality

Currently, the municipality of Murcia has 28 municipal photovoltaic installations, distributed in the city and its districts, which generate a total of 370 kw of solar energy and are installed on the roofs of municipal buildings, such as cultural centers, seniors, libraries, centers health and museums, and belong to the network managed by the City of Murcia.

The next photovoltaic installations in Murcia

Soon two other photovoltaic installations will be put into operation in municipal buildings - in a public school and in a Local Police building.

The works, which will last for four months, will allow the creation of a large and open space on the ground floor of the current building - located next to the Village Health Center -, which will serve as a multipurpose space.

The total investment amounts to 225,469 euros and the constructed area affected by the remodeling is 425 m2.
