The first group of Young people takes the Forest Plan to the surroundings of Murcia Río with the planting of about a hundred trees (08/02/2020)

More than fifty users, between 18 and 30 years old, participate in this program in a day of living together with family and friends.

Participants have attended an explanation about the program and then planted a total of 80 specimens of different species.

José Guillén: "This is the municipal strategy with which we are going to double the number of trees in Murcia and their districts, from 100,000 to 200,000 copies."

The Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, together with the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, attended this morning a new plantation of the Forest Plan in the surroundings of Murcia Río, in which more than fifty young people from Rotaract Murcia, accompanied by friends and family.

"The Forest Plan is our environmental roadmap, the municipal strategy with which we are going to double the number of existing trees in Murcia and their districts, from 100,000 to 200,000 copies," said José Guillén, who added that "we want different social and neighborhood groups in our municipality are actively involved in this initiative through plantations such as those we do today. â€

Specifically, young people have planted 80 trees, including poplars, willows, poplars and tarays, as well as 400 honeysuckle-locinera.

Previously, they have received detailed information on the environmental benefits of this activity.

They absorb up to 150 kg of CO2 per year

Trees are excellent filters for urban pollutants and small particles, improve the environment, generate innumerable health benefits, create shade and improve temperature, and absorb up to 150 kg of CO2 per year.

“The Foresta Plan has the participation of the youth of the municipality and today we have attended the first plantation with the collaboration of Rotaract, which have contributed to sensitize society about the care of our environment,†says Rebeca Pérez.

The City Council programs the Forest Plan in different schools, senior centers, neighborhoods and districts of Murcia, as well as in the Vía Verde, Terra Natura and Corvera.

Since 1968

Rotaract is an international program that groups young people between 18 and 30 years old, established by Rotary International more than five decades ago, with the aim of connecting young people from different countries and developing a network of friendships, with the desire to contribute to improve Well-being in the world.

Specifically, Rotaract is a young section of Rotary.

4 million green areas in Murcia and its districts

Currently the municipality has about 4 million m2 of green areas distributed in the more than 3,000 parks and gardens of the city and districts.

In these areas, in addition to urban frameworks, there are more than 116,000 woodland specimens of 210 different species.

In total, there are 60,557 units of road trees and 55,656 in green areas that depend on the attention of municipal services.
