Five free passes will show this afternoon the story of ´San Esteban, the site of light´ (08/02/2020)

Jos Ballesta: "Murcians and visitors will be able to know the origins of this archaeological site, traveling through the same ground that our past stepped through a unique recreation."

This audiovisual tour, with which the fixed lighting of the site is inaugurated, will be carried out in five free shifts of ten minutes each, –at 19.30, 20.00, 20.30, 21.00 and 21.30 hours–.

Guided visits to the San Esteban Site will resume from next Wednesday, February 12.

'I invite you to take a trip back in time.

Let yourself be carried away by my words and imagine during this tour that the ground they step on is the same one that our ancestors stepped on, old Murcians who in this same suburb traveled, chatted kindly, fell in love, played, sang ...

These are the words with which 'San Esteban, the site of light' will begin, the audiovisual tour that will show the origin and the most representative rooms of the archaeological site of San Esteban, a journey through history with which the fixed lighting will be inaugurated of this urban fabric.

“Murcians and visitors will know this afternoon the origins of this archaeological site, traveling through the same ground that our past stepped through a unique recreation, knowing the most important spaces that make up this site, which was a neighborhood outside the walls Medina of Murcia that began to take shape in the mid-eleventh century and reached its maximum expansion in the thirteenth century, ”said Jos Ballesta, who will attend this afternoon the first pass of the inauguration, at 7:30 p.m.

5 shifts guided by a speech

This tour of light and sound, which will discover the history of this urban network, will take place in five shifts of ten minutes each, –at 19.30, 20.00, 20.30, 21.00 and 21.30 hours–.

A speech prepared by the researcher Jorge Eiroa will guide this assembly, accompanied by music and lights of different colors.

Guided tours return from February 12

The City Council will resume guided tours of the San Esteban Site starting next Wednesday with night tours, which will take place every Wednesday at 7 pm, until March 31.

Specifically, each tour will last one hour and will have a maximum capacity of 50 people.

This activity will be carried out by researchers who are working on the field team since the beginning of the excavations.

More than 2,500 people have traveled the suburb

Thanks to the collaboration agreement between the City of Murcia and the University of Murcia for the scientific research of the San Esteban Site, more than 2,500 people have already known this archaeological site with guided tours.

A system of lighting of low consumption and respectful with the environment

To illuminate the accesses and the streets that are part of the environment of the archaeological site, an ultra low consumption LED luminaire has been installed, which will generate a flush lighting, sufficient to facilitate nighttime circulation.

This lighting system, which does not generate light pollution and allows the observation of the site from its perimeter at night, consists of lights of different colors, which discover a tour of the perimeter streets of the archaeological site.

This type of lighting has been built in situ, with the aim of achieving a perfect adaptation, installing it on the ground, in an inn, without any type of subjection to the ground and partially hidden.

Also, following the instructions of the archaeologists, the areas where the excavations are located will be illuminated with LED projectors.

The City Council works in coordination with the municipal archaeologists and the team of researchers from the University of Murcia, led by Jorge Eiroa, with the aim of continuing to investigate, discover and value the elements that make up this archaeological site.
