The San Esteban Site is lit on Saturday with an audiovisual tour of light and sound (05/02/2020)

The Murcians will be able to know the origins of the most important urban archaeological framework in Europe of a medieval Arab city through a montage that will be titled 'Saint Stephen, the site under the light'.

Recreation can be enjoyed from the perimeter in five passes in the afternoon: 19.30, 20.00, 20.30, 21.00 and 21.30 hours, 10 minutes each.

This recreation takes place on Saturday to inaugurate the fixed lighting of the Arrabal de la Arrixaca.

The City Hall inaugurates next Saturday the fixed lighting of the archaeological site of San Esteban with an audiovisual tour of light and sound that will show the history of the Arrabal de la Arrixaca.

In this way, Murcia will know on Saturday the origins of the most important urban archaeological framework in Europe of a medieval Arab city through a montage that will be titled 'San Esteban, the site under the light'.

This tour of light and sound can be enjoyed on Saturday from the perimeter of the historic complex in five passes in the afternoon: 19.30, 20.00, 20.30, 21.00 and 21.30 hours, 10 minutes each.

The assembly will consist of a speech, written by the researcher Jorge Eiroa, about the history of the site that will be accompanied by moving lights of different colors and music.

Thus, visitors will know the most representative rooms of the archaeological environment, such as the large building known as 'Enclosure 1', the cemetery, the oratory and, the most recent, 'Enclosure 2'.

The works correspond to the Phase O project, which an interdisciplinary team has been carrying out in the whole since 2018, thanks to the collaboration agreement between the University of Murcia and the City of Murcia.

The City Council works in San Esteban, through the departments of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, Sustainable Mobility and Youth, as well as Culture and Heritage Recovery, in coordination with municipal archaeologists and the research team of the University of Murcia , directed by Jorge Eiroa.

“Murcia will travel in time in a special way.

They will know the history of the most important urban network of an Arab city and will travel through the same places where our ancestors passed through a unique recreation, full of magic, light and color, â€said Councilor José Guillén.

A system of lighting respectful of the archaeological site

The San Esteban Site opens a fixed lighting system starting on Saturday, which will allow the streets to be reproduced as they were originally inside the suburb and to illuminate areas with different colors.

In this way, for the accesses and the streets, an ultra low consumption LED luminaire will be installed, with which a flush lighting will be generated, sufficient to facilitate nighttime circulation and to signal the routes, as well as to make the streets visible of the perimeter of the deposit.

This system has been built in situ to achieve a perfect adaptation, will be perched on the ground, without any subjection to the ground and partially hidden.

Following the instructions of archaeologists, the areas where the excavations are located will be illuminated with LED projectors.

"This lighting system will not generate light pollution and will allow observation from its perimeter at night, whose route will be distinguished with lights of different colors," said Councilman José Guillén.
