Social participation drives the Forest Plan with a massive Aspapros plantation in Terra Natura (05/02/2020)

The City Council is planting some 2,000 specimens around this natural park, in collaboration with Aspapros, Fundown, Astrapace, Assido and Astrade.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, Pepe Guillén, the Councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, and the director of Aspapros, Rafael López Torres, attended a new plantation today of the Forest Plan in Terra Natura, in which more than fifty users of the Association of Parents and Protectors of People with Intellectual Disabilities of Murcia (Aspapros) participated.

“We want different social and neighborhood groups of all ages to be actively involved in the care of our environment through the Forest Plan, whereby we will double the number of trees in the municipality, from 100,000 to 200,000 in the next ten years, â€explained the mayor of Murcia.

Through this initiative, the City Council is planting some 2,000 specimens around Terra Natura, in collaboration with the following disability associations: Aspapros, Fundown, Astrapace, Assido and Astrade.

Specifically, in Terra Natura about 550 specimens of between 3 and 4 meters of the genus 'meliá azedarach', 'catalá bignonoides', 'pawlonia imperial', 'salix alba', 'tipuana tipu', 'platanus acerifolia' are being planted, 'would cause equisetifolia', 'morus alba', 'tamarix gallo ay', 'pinus halepensis'.

In addition, 1,600 small-sized trees, between 10 and 30 centimeters tall, of the 'pinus halepensis' and 'tamarix gallica' species are being planted.

Neighborhoods, schools, urban and natural environments

The Foresta Plan is promoting new tree plantations in different educational centers in the municipality of Murcia, thus providing new shade spaces in recreational areas and raising awareness among the little ones about promoting sustainability.

Likewise, trees are being planted in city spaces such as the neighborhoods of San Pedro, San Antolín and San Nicolás, which will be extended to other urban and natural centers.

The Forest Plan has as its first objective the care of the environment and the promotion of sustainability.

They are excellent filters for urban pollutants and small particles, improve the environment, generate innumerable health benefits, create shade and improve temperature.

4 million green areas in the municipality

Murcia currently has about 4 million m2 of green areas distributed in the more than 3,000 parks and gardens of the city and districts.

In these areas, in addition to urban frameworks, there are more than 116,000 woodland specimens of 210 different species.

In total, there are 60,557 units of road trees and 55,656 in green areas that depend on the attention of municipal services.
