The Barrio del Carmen will feature a new 180 square meter mural that will pay tribute to Murcia as the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020 (05/02/2020)

The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, today presented with the Councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, the artistic project that the Municipal Office of Graffiti, dependent on Ferrovial Services, will carry out at Avenida Ciudad de Almería , in the Barrio del Carmen, thanks to the transfer of a facade by its community of owners.

The artists Kraser and Nels will pay tribute to Murcia Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020 by creating a 180 square meter mural, which will have as its main image the Greek goddess of cuisine, Hestia, and will show her surrounded by real and abstract foods accompanied by vegetation and some phrases related to gastronomy.

To make this graffiti an articulated arm with up to 25 meters high, more than 80 kilos of plastic paints and 150 spray cans will be used.

With this new mural Murcia will have more than fifty works that put the Region as a benchmark of street art nationwide, in addition to rehabilitating disused spaces thanks to these murals.

One of the leading artists who collaborate in this project is the Kraser cartagenero, who has participated in numerous national and international art exhibitions and his work has been published in books and specialized magazines.

His works are influenced by many artistic movements, such as Classical, Surrealist and Lowbrow painting, among others.

The content of his works usually deals with the world of dreams and today's society, including ironic and dreamlike concepts to convey emotions and leave the interpretation to the viewer.

The work will also feature the participation of the Murcian artist Nels, who has been working in the artistic world since 1993, with a style from hiphop culture and the wild style of classic graffiti.

He has worked on several occasions with the Municipal Graffiti Office before.

This action is part of the municipal initiative for the revitalization of Urban DNA neighborhoods, included in the DUSI Strategy and funded by the ERDF 2014-2020. One of the lines of action of this Strategy is the revitalization and social activation of neighborhoods from the city.

In this context, we have actively worked with the neighbors of Carmen, contributing the multicultural value that it has, to reactivate buildings and emblematic areas, modernizing the neighborhood again and recovering its historic weight in the city of Murcia.

In this way, this project adds to many others that are already being developed in the neighborhood, which include the planting of new trees, deep cleaning of the neighborhood and elimination of graffiti, improvement of children's play areas, spaces of gerontogimnasia for the elderly, the improvement of accessibility, installation of fountains, new benches and rest areas, improvement of road safety, accessibility and lighting.

Other interventions such as the rehabilitation of halls 1 and 2 of the Artillery Barracks, the remodeling of the room for the stables culture, and the international market Mixtura, one of the most important projects due to the special involvement of all the neighborhood groups, which enhances the identity of El Carmen as a space with a great wealth of world cultures.
