Disability and Sustainable Mobility collaborate to implement the passblue device in priority areas of Murcia (04/02/2020)

The mayor Paqui Pérez and Rebeca Pérez work on the implementation of this system throughout itinerary 1 of the I Municipal Universal Accessibility Plan and provide specific and necessary budget items to make this a short-term reality

The collaboration and commitment between the departments of the Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation and that of Sustainable Mobility and Youth will allow expanding the number of areas that have passblue devices and improve the quality of life of people with visual and conciliar disabilities The rest of the neighbors.

Currently, the municipality of Murcia has 1,094 pedestrian crossings trafficked with acoustic devices, of which 302 have passblue technology, representing 27.6% of the total, a figure similar to that of other Spanish cities.

In the last three months, the Traffic Service has carried out improvement actions that have involved the implementation of passblue devices in 86 new points, increasing from the 216 that was last November to the current 302.

At the moment, the City Council is working on the implementation of this system throughout itinerary 1 of the I Municipal Universal Accessibility Plan, which includes several urban itineraries, agreed with the different representative associations of people with disabilities, in order to adapt them to ensure its accessibility

Thus, they already have this technology the crossing of the bank of Spain of the Gran Vía, the Jaime I avenue, the avenue of the Constitution, two of the three crosses of Puerta Nueva, Gutiérrez Mellado, in part of Primo de Rivera, Ronda de Levante (except the Plaza Circular), Juan Carlos I Avenue (from Circular Plaza to the intersection with Abenarabi and the intersections with the Senda de Granada and Calle Mayor de Espinardo), Plaza Juan XXIII, Ronda de Garay, Bishop Frutos, crossing the Hospital Reina Sofía, part of May Day, and traffic lights of the river bridges on both sides (they are complete on the bridge of the Hospital, on the Malecon, and partially in La Fica, and will soon be implemented in Red Cross Square).

Councilors Paqui Pérez and Rebeca Pérez have made this afternoon a tour of various streets of Murcia, accompanied by the Associations of Users of Guide Dogs and Deafblind People, to see the operation of the steps and traffic lights and check in situ in which areas do not there are passblue devices and it is necessary to implant them.

The passblue system is an acoustic warning with remote control or via a bluetooth connection that allows the traffic lights regulated by traffic lights to be guaranteed to guarantee the safety of blind and visually impaired people, also avoiding unnecessary sounds.

The user is automatically detected, with a range of 10 meters, without having to perform any operation, and the system emits an orientation sound so that the blind person can locate the traffic light.

During the help process, traffic lights emit various types of sound:

- Acoustic Orientation Signal: it is emitted every time the user activates the command, or detects a Bluetooth device, and allows it to locate the exact location of the post that emits the sound.

- Acoustic activation signal registered: it is emitted once the system has been activated and waits for the green cycle to make way.

- Acoustic Signal Step: intermittent characteristic tone, which informs the user of the possibility of crossing.

- End of Step Acoustic Sign: characteristic tone well differentiated from the pitch tone, which warns the user of this situation.

- Once the step cycle is finished, the system returns to its original rest situation, not emitting any type of acoustic signal until it is activated again.
