The repair works on the side of the Verónica market begin (04/02/2020)

The Councilor for Commerce, Markets and Public Road, Juan Fernando Hernández, today visited the repair works on the side of the Verónica market to supervise the development of the more than thirty actions that will be carried out on the facade of this property .

The work began yesterday Monday afternoon and is expected to end this Friday.

In addition to the shattered pieces of the structure of the facade, we will proceed to fix one of the doors that is damaged.

BIC environment and absence of contract

The mayor of Markets has referred to the delay of these works that, as he has explained, has been caused by two issues.

"In the first place, because it is a building integrated in a BIC environment, we have needed the authorization of the General Directorate of Cultural Property, in addition to the mandatory reports of the municipal heritage service technicians to carry out this repair; and in Second order, because the absence of a maintenance contract for the municipal supply places - which ended in 2017 and since then a new one has not been tendered - causes continuous delays in this type of works, so that each breakdown and damage has been had to solve in isolation and through minor contracts. "

New repair and maintenance contract

In this sense, the councilor Juan Fernando Hernández has announced that to expedite this type of works, his Department has prepared a list of conditions for the tender of a new contract for repair and maintenance of supply spaces, the amount of which amounts to a total of 100,000 euros

"With this contract, which will be presented in a few weeks to the Recruitment service for approval, we will avoid relying on minor contracts when it comes to addressing the repairs and maintenance of the eight municipal supply places," explained the Market owner.

Veronica integral remodeling

In turn, he announced that, from the Department, "we will continue to work, together with the Office of European Programs, in a project to finance the comprehensive remodeling of the Veronicas market."

"This project will return to this unique building its former splendor transforming it into an engine of commercial, tourist and gastronomic dynamism, which will also allow us to allocate the existing resources in the Department to the rest of the supply spaces," said mayor responsable.

Finally, Juan Fernando Hernández has once again emphasized the need to "continue boosting municipal markets, boosting purchases, improving their image and expanding the offer of services they offer to respond to customer needs."
