The University of Murcia and the ILO sign an agreement for "decent and inclusive" work (03/02/2020)

The University of Murcia (UMU) and the Office in Spain of the International Labor Organization (ILO) have signed an agreement on Monday with the objective of promoting the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations, especially on issues related to decent work, labor relations, social protection, globalization of the labor market and international labor standards.

In addition, both entities will organize activities around the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8: 'Decent work and economic growth', to promote sustained economic growth, reduce the unemployment rate and increase labor productivity, as well as promote decent employment , safe and inclusive.

The rector of the UMU, José Luján, explained that "you cannot conceive of an improvement in people's living conditions without addressing sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, as well as productive employment and in decent conditions."

Luján recalled that the project of the UMU ODSessions will organize from February 4 to 28 about twenty activities around SDG 8. "The public university will give voice to employers, unions, professional associations and third sector to discuss and promote effective measures that increase productivity and technological innovation, "he detailed.

For his part, the director of the ILO Office in Spain, Joaquín Nieto, has emphasized that the objective of the 2030 Agenda is "to achieve full and productive employment, and decent work for all men and women by 2030, as well as promoting measures that end youth unemployment and put an end to forced labor, slavery and human trafficking. "

Through the talk 'Social justice and decent work in the Sustainable Development Goals', Joaquín Nieto will open this Tuesday, February 4, at 11 am at the Faculty of Labor Sciences, the SDG program on SDG 8 .

ODSessions aims to raise awareness, sensitize and promote the 17 Sustainable Development Goals between the university community and Murcia society.

This is a project that organizes more than 300 activities until April 2021 and is sponsored by the regional government, Aguas de Murcia, Bankia and the Cajamurcia Foundation.
