The "Maestro Ibarra" offers the South neighborhoods a new green area for outdoor sports of more than 5,300 m2 (31/01/2020)

José Ballesta visited the works of this garden, which is named after the charismatic sports journalist from Murcia, who died a year ago;

a new green lung in Ronda Sur that will benefit the families of San Pío X, Santiago El Mayor and the village of Patiño.

The park will have a basketball court, another 'running', an outdoor gym and sun loungers to rest, among other novelties.

The irrigation system of this environment will also be renewed, which will be telematically controlled, action aligned with the municipal strategy 'Murcia Smart City'.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, visited today the works of the Maestro Ibarra Garden, which are being carried out in the surroundings of Maestro Ibarra street and involve construction of a new green zone in the area of ​​Ronda Sur.

“This new garden, of more than 5,300 square meters, will especially benefit the more than 21,000 residents who reside in the Murcia neighborhoods of San Pío X and Santiago El Mayor, and in the hamlet of Patiño, which are part of the surroundings of Ronda Sur ", Said José Ballesta, who added that" it is a new green area that aspires to become a reference space for outdoor sports, since it will have a running track and a basketball court, among other developments " .

In total, of the 21,235 inhabitants residing in the surroundings of Ronda Sur, more than 9,000 are children or young people under 35 years.

It is planned that the construction of this garden, which is being renovated 3,950 square meters of pavement, will be completed at the end of February.

"Murcia is a benchmark in the creation of green spaces at the national level and the next headquarters of the National Congress of Parks and Public Gardens (PARJAP 2020)," said José Ballesta, who added "this live city transformation initiative is part of the Municipal Connection South Plan, which recovers the centrality of the neighborhoods and districts of the south, uniting people, removing barriers and creating new spaces for living together like this garden â€.

Outdoor gym, a basketball court and a running one

The Ibarra Master Garden will feature a basketball court, where there will also be a goal, an outdoor gym, with balance bridges and metal bars at different levels, which will also be enabled for crossfit and calisthenics.

This space will also have a 400 meter long running track, which will be marked with beacons from the City of Murcia to indicate the distance of the route.

The route of this blue running track will wrap around the park's surroundings.

Also, existing urban furniture will be renewed.

Sun loungers to rest in the shade and nest boxes for birds

This new garden will also house a space to rest in the shade, where 'lounge chairs' will be distributed throughout the park's surroundings, whose design, with a metal structure and bed nets, is inspired by hammocks.

Likewise, 11 nest boxes will be enabled with drinking fountains for birds of different sizes.

Water, another main element in the Ibarra Master Garden

The Ibarra Master Garden will also feature a new ornamental fountain, a performance framed within the municipal strategy Plan Alberca 2023, which will be integrated into the park environment, surrounded by riverside and aromatic plants, and will be built on an ecological pavement.

“Water is very present in the history of our city, it is an indispensable element in the Mediterranean gardens since its origins and we are going to give it a central place in the parks of our municipality,†José Ballesta recalled.

Smart irrigation system

The irrigation system that currently exists in this environment will be modernized, since it will become telematically controlled, adapting irrigation to environmental conditions and water needs at all times.

It will also have a power system, which will work with solar energy, for the transmission of data.

The modernization of the irrigation system is aligned with the Murcia Smart City municipal strategy, which is developed through the MiMurcia project, the smart city model that puts the latest technological innovations at the service of people, improving the quality of life of Murcia and environmental sustainability.

2030 Forest Plan in the Ibarra Master Garden

The construction of the Maestro Ibarra Garden is part of the 2030 Forest Plan, “the municipal strategy that is marking the urban environmental and landscape planning, with which from the City of Murcia we are going to double the number of existing trees in the municipality, reaching 200,000 copies and promoting new shrub plantations, â€recalled José Ballesta.

Specifically, the flower beds will be renewed, which will entail the expansion of shrub areas in grass spaces, and a perimeter hedge will be planted that will surround the garden environment - more than 750 units of shrub plants.

Currently, this environment has more than a hundred trees and 16 palm trees.

In honor of Murcia journalist Maestro Ibarra

The garden is being built in honor of Murcian journalist Juan Ignacio de Ibarra, known as 'El Maestro', a reference in the world of sports journalism, who exercised his profession in the newspapers Line, Diario 16, La Opinion and La Verdad, as well as in the Murcia Sports and Monday Monday weekly.

During his time on the waves, he directed the Ibarraestadio program on Radio Juventud and also worked on the Ser, Copa, Onda Regional, Radio Levante, Onda 21 and Punto Radio stations.

Also, Juan Ignacio de Ibarra, who died at 83 years old on January 3, 2019, was the founder of the School of Dramatic Arts of Murcia, of which he was director, and preacher of the September Fair in 2010.
