HUERMUR celebrates the withdrawal of the distorting installation of the BIC facade of the Romea Theater (29/01/2020)

The conservation association required the General Directorate of Cultural Property two weeks ago to order the City Council of Murcia to withdraw these elements

HUERMUR shows its satisfaction after this new rectification of the City Council, which already had to remove also inappropriate elements from the Old Bridge and the Molinos del Río

The association maintains that the Romea Theater "is not a billboard or a clothes line to hang inventions" but "a monumental facade protected at the highest level" so "we urge the Consistory not to repeat these actions completely inappropriate", that end up being censored by the Ministry

HUERMUR also was able to verify last week how new "yellow mass" elements had been placed, which had extended the facade surface covered by this installation of the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy

The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and Heritage of Murcia (HUERMUR) celebrates that the installation placed on the facade of the Romea Theater has finally been removed, and that two weeks ago it was denounced by HUERMUR before the General Directorate of Cultural Property of the Ministry of Culture

The association denounced before the regional authority in matters of cultural heritage the installation of distorting and strident elements on the facade of the Romea Theater, in the city of Murcia, which is protected as a BIC Monument (Property of Cultural Interest), consisting of a mass Of yellow color formed by foam type material of construction filling and various kitchen utensils, which hung from the main facade and from one side of the main theater of the city.

During the last night of Tuesday, January 28, a brigade of operators has proceeded to the removal of the distorting elements, both those originally denounced, and the extension of this installation that was placed both on the same facade and on the side of the Theater, expanding the facade space that concealed the installation.

HUERMUR recalls that "our monuments and their facades are not advertising spaces or clothes ropes to hang any invention that their owner or responsible comes to mind, but they are centennial spaces worthy of protection and attention" so "we urge the Consistory not to repeat these actions completely inappropriate, "which also" end up being censored by the Ministry of Culture and its Directorate General of Cultural Property. "

The conservation association indicates that "we will continue in person in all the Cultural Property files to demand that the actions of the City of Murcia be reprimanded and that it is clear to the municipal officials that these actions can never be repeated".

Finally, HUERMUR informs that "we will ask the City of Murcia and its Transparency services about how much money this installation has cost, its placement and its subsequent withdrawal" since "our cultural heritage languishes for the most part without any public investment, while waste in ephemeral facilities that are also censored by the regional administration. "
