"Method of Geometry (1640)" is a manuscript written by the Jesuit Juan Carlos della Faille, the only one preserved in the library of the Royal Academy of History, which testifies to the scientific activity produced in that century in the Royal Studies Madrid Imperial College, while reflecting the academic dissemination of mathematical knowledge, whose learning was motivated during that stage for an eminently practical purpose.
The edition published by the University of Murcia, entitled "Method of Geometry (1640) by Juan Carlos della Faille. Study and edition" and written by Francisco Javier Sánchez Martín, is the result of a research project leading to the study of the Spanish language Mathematics of the 17th century, and it is a publication of Editum, Publications service of the University of Murcia, which has been funded through the Seneca Research Support Program-Agency of Science and Technology of the Region of Murcia.
Its author, Francisco Javier Sánchez Martín, is a full professor of Spanish Language at the University of Murcia, and has dedicated his research to the analysis of the history of the Spanish language, particularly the Golden Age from the perspective of the lexicon.
His activity as head of research projects has allowed to publish manuscripts of interest for the history of the Spanish language and science.
The edition of this work helps to assess the contribution of Juan Carlos della Faille, a mathematician whose figure can be placed at the level of other great contemporary mathematicians, and who had as one of his central concerns the introduction in Spain of the new physical scientific theories- mathematics that at that time were being developed in Europe.
