Murcia overcomes the barrier of 450,000 inhabitants for the first time (27/01/2020)

The municipality registers a population increase with 6,317 more inhabitants, as of January 1, 2019, of which 1,395 belong to neighborhoods and 4,922 correspond to districts.

El Carmen is the area of ​​the town with the most registered people, with 20,270 people, and the hamlet of El Palmar continues to be the most populous town with 23,892 inhabitants.

"We have experienced in the last 20 years a very important growth, which shows dynamism that we are a society in continuous expansion", emphasizes the councilor José Guillén.

The municipality of Murcia exceeds for the first time the barrier of 450,000 inhabitants.

Thus, according to the official register that will approve the Plenary at its next meeting and that this morning has been approved by the Commission of Infrastructure, Finance, Economic Management and General Affairs, Murcia has gone from 447,207 to 453,524 inhabitants, to January 1, 2019. Of the total, 231,764 are women and 221,760 are men.

In the city of Murcia alone the population is 169,836 inhabitants.

By neighborhoods, El Carmen is the one with the highest number of people registered with a total of 20,270 inhabitants, followed by Vistalegre with 14,048 and Infante Juan Manuel with 12,810 inhabitants.

The whole of the districts has a total of 283,688 people, of which El Palmar continues to be the most populous town with 23,892 inhabitants, followed by Puente Tocinos with 16,658 inhabitants and Cabezo de Torres with 13,357 inhabitants.

“Murcia has experienced in the last 20 years a very important population growth.

This fact is always positive, denotes dynamism and movement, because we are a young, dynamic and continuously expanding municipality â€, explains the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, responsible for the Padrón service.

Thus, the mayor points out that "it is precisely this growth that implies special attention in the case of state funding to continue offering quality services to citizens."

6,317 more inhabitants in Murcia and districts

Based on the evolution in districts and neighborhoods between January 1, 2018 and January 1, 2019, Murcia increased its population by 6,317 inhabitants, of which 1,395 belong to neighborhoods and 4,922 correspond to districts.

Thus, in relation to the city, the neighborhood of Buenos Aires has grown the most with 3.7% more population, followed by Nuestra Señora de la Fuensanta with 3.1 and La Purisima-Barriomar with 3%.

Continuing with the comparison by districts in the same time interval, Baños and Mendigo would be the fastest growing town with a rise of 11.14%, followed by Sucina with 5.11% and Corvera with 4.6%.

The average age is between 40 and 44 years old

The average age of the population is between 40 and 44 years.

Thus, a total of 7,943 are 40 years old;

7,935 reach 44 and 7,926 have 41.

"In short, Murcia belongs to the Spain that is filled, as it is one of the municipalities with the highest growth levels in all of Spain, with a high birth rate and the average age of the youngest, just 40 years," highlights the mayor.
