The landscapes of Egypt, Russia, Portugal and England will arrive in Murcia by international experts in April (27/01/2020)

José Ballesta presented this morning the program and the website of the National Congress of Parks and Public Gardens (PARJAP 2020), which will attract more than 5,000 visitors and will be held on April 22, 23 and 24 at the Víctor Villegas auditorium.

The main theme of this international event will be 'Murcia Río', the project with which more than 60,000 square meters of green spaces have already been opened to Murcia.

Experts who have developed their research in Egypt, Moscow, London and Lisbon, among other locations, will participate.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, presented this morning the program of the National Congress of Parks and Public Gardens (PARJAP 2020) in the Corregidores Hall, which will be held in Murcia on April 22, 23 and 24 and will bring together more than 400 experts in this field and 5,000 visitors.

“Murcia is a city with a project, a reference in gardening at the national level, where we are developing live city transformation initiatives, promoting environmental and urban regeneration, valuing our heritage and promoting the regeneration of the Segura River, through strategic projects such as Murcia Río, the Clean Air strategy, the 2023 Pool Objective or the 2030 Forestry Plan among others, â€said José Ballesta.

"Murcia will be the international capital of the parks and gardens in April, at the conclusion of the Spring Festival, at which time the city shows its maximum splendor with the Spring Gardens and floral monuments," said José Ballesta, who added that " there is no place or better time than Murcia in Spring to host the 47th edition of this Congress â€.

La Huerta, blue and green infrastructure, as well as climate change mitigation, the themes of the Congress

The celebration of this congress involves the deployment of more than twenty activities, including presentations, discussion tables, workshops with schoolchildren and technical visits to the surroundings of Murcia Río, touring its urban spaces and the areas of Murcia Río that pass through districts, as well as the hydraulic network of irrigation of the Murcian Huerta, visiting ferris wheels and mills to explain the operation of these historical infrastructures;

activities to be held with the objective of sharing experiences, scientific knowledge, theories and design practices, deepening knowledge of the landscape of the gardens of Murcia, its garden and vegetation.

In addition, the program has cultural visits to discover the green surroundings of the municipality and the iconic places of the Region, such as the Sanctuary of Fuensanta and the Archaeological Museum of Cartagena.

Specifically, the presentations will be grouped into four blocks: the landscape, touring the Garden from ancient times to the present;

the blue infrastructure in urban environments, explained from international experiences like London and Lisbon, and from national projects, such as Madrid Río and Murcia Río;

trends and challenges in urban green management;

and the green city in the face of climate change, the rational use of vegetation, water and landscape to reach sustainable cities through the generation of ecosystem services.

The gardens of Egypt, the experience of London and the parks of Moscow

A keynote address from the Garden-Garden in ancient times, given by the historian, Egyptologist and researcher of the Higher Council for Scientific Research and Director of the Djehuty Project (CSIC) José Manuel Galán, who has developed his research in Egypt;

Another paper on the experience of management in Russia, given by the director of the park 'Sokolniki of Moscow', Andrei Lapshin, or how the city of London has evolved after the Olympic Games, are some of the topics that the papers will occupy of the congress, in which national and international experts will participate.

The landscapes of Portugal and the metropolitan area of ​​Lisbon, the Palmeral of Elche, the blue infrastructures in Madrid and the vision of the role of the river in the urban environment are also themes on which the PARJAP 2020 Congress will be. In addition, to commemorate its celebration , the planting of an emblematic tree will be carried out - un almez - in Murcia Río.

The guiding thread of this National Congress, whose title is 'Murcia, Spring Gardens, blue infrastructure and landscape', will be Murcia Río, “the project with which we have already put more than 60,000 square meters of naturalized spaces at the service of Murcia , recreating the Huerta and recovering the riverside vegetation, â€said José Ballesta.

“It is no coincidence that the PARJAP Murcia 2020 Congress is dedicated to blue infrastructure and landscape, since a large part of the Murcian landscape is shaped by the interactions between vegetation, culture, heritage and the arteries of life and water â€, Stressed the mayor of Murcia.

'Murcia, Spring Gardens, blue infrastructure and landscape', also refers to the Spring Gardens of Murcia, ephemeral exhibitions of flowers and vegetables that decorate every year the most outstanding corners of the city with the creativity and knowledge of the best architects , decorators and gardening experts.

In this context, Murcia will host this international event taking advantage of the moment of maximum splendor of the Spring Gardens, which are held near the Side of the Garden and the Burial of the Sardine, celebrations of International Tourist Interest.

The fees range between 100 and 385 euros, depending on whether you are a member of the association, retired, undergraduate, protective partner or belonging to a social program.

Congress returns to Murcia after two decades

Murcia already hosted this congress, held in collaboration with the Spanish Association of Parks and Public Gardens (AEPJP) in 1998. Now, two decades later, the city will develop the 2020 PARJAP at the Víctor Villegas Auditorium and Congress Center.

The activity will focus on the more than 3,000 green areas, parks and gardens in the metropolitan area and the 55 districts that make up the almost 900 km2 of the municipality of Murcia, with green areas of more than 117,000 woodland specimens.

Murcia, city between gardens and national reference

Murcia has multiple parks and gardens where you can make unique technical visits of special interest, such as the Floridablanca Garden, declared of Cultural Interest in the category of Historic Garden in 2017, for being the first public garden in our country, or the Botanical Garden and the Paseo del Malecón, BIC since 1982.

The city also has the last urban vestige of what used to be a Spanish-Muslim orchard, in the López Ferrer Garden, or a reference for Mediterranean palm groves such as the Zaraiche palm grove, as well as new gardens that were born thanks to the Murcia Río project , like the garden of the Alameda del Malecón, the one of the Four Stones and the one of the Fluvial Walk, that connects the Malecón with the river.

More than 500 professionals

The City Council collaborates with the Spanish Association of Parks and Public Gardens for the celebration of this international meeting, which is formed by more than 500 professionals from the field of public and private gardening;

entity that was founded in 1973 with the aim of promoting training in parks and gardens, state objective criteria, lead the forums of interest and demands of the sector, as well as value the management of professionals in this field.
