The City Council, through the Department of Education and Infantile Schools, directed by Belén López, assigns the use of public educational centers for the use of activities during non-school hours, that is, in the afternoons and weekends.
Thus, during the first quarter of this 2019-2020 academic year, 153 requests were authorized for the use of these facilities during extracurricular hours.
Councilwoman Belén López emphasizes that through this action it contributes to a greater integration of the educational centers in the cultural life of the municipalities, “thus enhancing their educational function, projecting it and making all citizens participate in it†.
The majority of the requests are destined to school and leisure reinforcement activities, promoted by social services for the realization of Projects with Adolescence and Children (PAI) and Caixa Proinfancia projects, through NGOs that act in the municipality.
"All of them are done in the afternoon and with the aim of preventing the social exclusion of the youngest, through reinforcement classes and school support, leisure, psychological care and family aid," said the mayor.
Specifically, for this purpose, a total of 83 schools are currently being used, covering 89 projects.
In addition, other authorizations have been given to cultural associations of foreigners resident in Murcia for the study of their language, sports entities for training, dance and music rehearsals, neighborhood meetings and AMPAS.
These usually make use of the centers on Friday afternoons, Saturdays and / or Sundays.
Other associations use the facilities from Monday to Thursday afternoons, which are mostly cultural entities that give workshops for young people and adults and associations for the treatment of dyslexia and autism, among others.
“In recent years, AMPAS are requesting the use of the centers for Teacher's Day, in addition to holiday periods.
Thus, only at Christmas, schools have been held in 22 schools, organized by 34 associations of fathers and mothers, â€says Belén López.
The mayor explains that "in all cases the Education Service coordinates the authorizations of use with applicants and management teams of schools."
In this way, "cleaning companies are given part so that they take into account such use so that the units are in perfect condition for later use by students in their ordinary school activities," he concludes.
