José Ballesta discovers this afternoon the commemorative plaque of the first permanent headquarters of the UMU in El Carmen (24/01/2020)

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, and the Councilor for Culture and Heritage Recovery, Jesús Pacheco, discover this evening, at 7.30 pm, the plaque commemorating the permanent headquarters of the University of Murcia in the Carmen neighborhood, in the former building of the Graduated Schools, and which today houses the Artistic Laboratory of Carmen (LAC).

This space hosted the first permanent and exclusive headquarters of the University of Murcia, dedicated to the teaching of Sciences in the popular neighborhood of Carmen, next to the Church of the same name.

Before, in 1915 some classrooms had been enabled in the Murcian Institute of Second Teaching (Today Licensed Cascales), a lecture activity that in June 1917 passed to the Carmen building, where he remained until 1935, the year in which he moved to the Campus of the mercy.

In addition, room 8 of the LAC Art Center will be named in homage to the Murcian scientist Piedad de la Cierva, who began studying at these facilities on October 2, 1928.

De la Cierva (Murcia, June 1, 1913 - Madrid, December 31, 2007) was a Spanish scientist, a pioneer in the studies of artificial radiation in Spain and in the industrialization of optical glass.

Fashion show

To celebrate this event, we wanted to honor the woman and her relevant role at the University of Murcia with a parade of the Murcian couture firm 'De la Cierva & Nicolás', relatives of Piedad de la Cierva, which will take place at from 20 hours, with free access.

The parade 'Jardin d'hiver' will show a collection composed of 25 'outfits', created by the Murcian designer Dolores Nicolás, where she reveals her artisan work mixed with innovative technological finishing fabrics.

The artist Ramón González, who is taking notes of this collection, will give a good account for a later exhibition that will open in mid-February also in the LAC ".

This fashion show will present the prêt-à-porter, party, ceremony and girlfriend collections of the Murcian company De la Cierva & Nicolás, founded in 1988 and whose creations have been presented at international fairs and fashion shows such as Barcelona, ​​Madrid, Seville, Miami, Paris, New York, Düsseldorf ...
