The City Council improves the median of Pintor Almela Costa Street with more visibility for road traffic and new vegetation (22/01/2020)

Among the actions are the remodeling of the flower beds, the renovation of the plant elements, in addition to the modernization of the irrigation system.

This proposal is part of the Improvement Plan for Medina and Roundabouts in Murcia to offer better visibility to drivers and pedestrians, as well as beautify the urban environment.

"We continue with the improvement of our green environments, always giving priority to the safety of the neighbors and contributing with these actions to the improvement of the aesthetics of our city, as well as the quality of life of Murcia," says José Guillén.

The Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, has visited this morning the improvement works that have been undertaken in the median of Pintor Almela Costa, the artery that connects the Infante neighborhood with Ronda Sur.

The mayor explains that "this medium had an alignment of palm trees and had a substrate in poor condition for planting, so the work has focused on improving green areas, creating new beds for planting plant species."

The proposal is part of the Improvement Plan for Medina and Roundabouts in Murcia that tries to rehabilitate these spaces to offer better visibility to drivers and pedestrians, as well as beautify the urban environment.

Among the actions are the remodeling of the flower beds, the renovation of the plant elements with new species, in addition to the modernization of the irrigation system.

Specifically, throughout the median, a total of 1,600 species of teucrium and 68 specimens of small woodland, known as eugenics, have been planted.

Another of the purposes of the medium and roundabouts plan and that therefore contributes to the performance of Pintor Almela Costa Street is the contribution to the improvement of the environment within the urban space through the introduction of new shrub species.

In addition, new elements for the protection of urban fauna, such as nest boxes, drinking fountains and insect hotels, will be incorporated in order to protect the most common species from negative stimuli, such as noise pollution from road traffic or atmospheric conditions, such as rain or low temperatures.

"In short, we continue with the improvement of our green spaces, always giving priority to the safety of the neighbors and contributing with these actions to the improvement of the aesthetics of our city and the quality of life of Murcia," said the mayor of Urban Development.
