Ballesta claims to the Ministry a final decision on the North Collector to avoid systematic flooding in Murcia (21/01/2020)

The mayor of Murcia urges the Government of Spain to find a solution to the blockade of the works of the West Pluviales Interceptor Collector, whose project was tendered for more than 1.5 million euros and has been paralyzed for more than three years.

The Ramblas of Churra, Espinardo and Cabezo de Torres are some of the areas affected by the rains, which have been cut off today to traffic.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, toured this morning some of the different areas of the municipality that have been affected by heavy rains, including the districts of Churra, Cabezo de Torres and Espinardo.

"It is necessary to take a definitive solution on that North Collector to avoid the systematic floods that occur in Murcia when it rains moderately, like those we are living today," said the Murcian governor about this infrastructure of state competition, which He has been hiring for almost three years.

"Murcia have been demanding a solution for 20 years," he recalled.

José Ballesta has urged the Ministry of Ecological Transition to pronounce and put on the table a solution to the blockade of the works of the West Pluvial Interceptor Collector, whose tender has been paralyzed against the technical criteria of the Secretary of State of Environment, who commissioned the drafting of the project, which was tendered for more than 1.5 million euros.

“It is necessary to remember again that this situation that we live in Murcia can not be repeated, that every time it rains with moderate intensity, I no longer say with great intensity, but with moderation, Murcia and Murcia have to live in fear of heaven , looking forward to the rains, â€said the mayor of Murcia.

Due to the precipitations fallen in the last hours in the municipality, this morning they have been cut, to guarantee the security of the neighbors, different streets, roads and boulevards in Murcia and its districts, among which are the Ramblas of Espinardo, Cabezo from Torres and Churra, to where the mayor of Murcia has moved.

To guarantee the safety of all Murcia

The West Pluviales Interceptor Collector "is not an infrastructure we deserve, but we need," says José Ballesta, and notes that "the municipality of Murcia has problems due to the lack of infrastructure and facilities provided by the central government, such as the Collector Interceptor of Pluviales Oeste, a vital infrastructure to guarantee the safety and integrity of Murcia in the case of moderately heavy rains, which would end the problems of overflowing ramblas and their consequent floods in the northern part of the city. â€
