The UMU Social Council awards the Rector Lostau ex aequo Award to Salvador Zamora and Gregorio Sánchez (21/01/2020)

The Lostau Rector Award to the University Spirit and Human Values ​​has been awarded in its 2019 ex aequo edition to Gregorio Sánchez Gómez, Professor of Inorganic Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Murcia, posthumously;

and Salvador Zamora Navarro, Professor of Physiology and Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Murcia.

The Lostau Rector Award is convened by the Social Council of the teaching institution with the aim of distinguishing people who have or have had a relationship with the University that stand out for their social activity and for virtues of the society of our time, the university spirit and human values.

Gregorio Sánchez Gómez, who died on July 12, 2019, was dean of the Faculty of Chemistry between 2006 and 2014, during which he led the process of transformation of the Bachelor's Degrees in the Degrees and implemented the Internal Quality Assurance System in the faculty.

The Professor of Inorganic Chemistry is remembered for his constant work and his effort to do better the Faculty of Chemistry and a better University of Murcia.

One of the objectives he had during his years of university management was to expand vocations and encourage more students to opt for the chemical profession and among his great achievements was to involve the faculty in conducting laboratory experiences for students Secondary

The professor, who was the director of the International Doctoral School from 2014 to 2018, also stood out for his extensive research, with more than one hundred high-impact articles published.

Salvador Zamora Navarro, meanwhile, is currently Professor Emeritus of the University of Murcia and throughout his career has stood out for the transmission of intellectual values ​​in all university areas.

He carries the University of Murcia in his heart and at his age, continues to convey enthusiasm in teaching, lives with his colleagues in the Faculty of Biology, maintains his office in the Department and attends all acts or events organized by the Faculty of Biology .

Zamora stands out for making all his knowledge available to the University whenever required.

Among his achievements, in addition to extensive research, the creation of the Classrooms of the Sea, embryo of the current International University of the Sea, which he directed for 25 years, or the appointment of 'Living legend', granted by the International Union of Nutritional Sciences in recognition of its contribution to the development of Nutrition in Spain and in Europe.
