The City Council begins the expansion of the Senior Center of Cabezo de Torres, which will benefit 770 seniors (21/01/2020)

The works, which will last for four months and involve an investment of 225,469 euros, will create a large and open space on the ground floor.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the councilor of Pedanías y Barrios, Marco Antonio Fernández, visited today the beginning of the works of extension and integral remodeling of the Center of Seniors of Cabezo de Torres;

an action that will benefit the more than 770 seniors who carry out daily activities in these municipal facilities.

The works, which will last for four months, will allow the creation of a large and open space on the ground floor of the current building - located next to the Village Health Center -, which will serve as a multipurpose space.

The total investment amounts to 225,469 euros and the constructed area affected by the remodeling is 425 m2.

"Users and users will have, before next summer, a broader, more accessible center with more services adapted to their needs," said Mayor José Ballesta, who added that "this action is part of the Extraordinary Investment Plan in Pedanías, endowed with 14 million euros â€.

Currently, the center has 770 members, hence the need to carry out an expansion of its facilities and new services adapted to its needs (gerontology, theater, choral, painting, computer, reading club, workshop writing, computer science, hairdresser, cafeteria, among others).

The Centers for the Elderly “are spaces for coexistence, assistance and permanent activity, which are distributed throughout all the neighborhoods and districts of the municipality, where different cultural and recreational programs and workshops are being developed, which currently serve more than 32,000 Murciaâ€, José Ballesta said.

In this sense, the mayor recalled that “in parallel, the Consistory also executes the works of the new Center for the Elderly of Espinardo,†a new 500m2 store located on Calle Mayor, which will have a reading room, gymnasium classroom, cafeteria with kitchen and dining room and multipurpose room, hairdresser, two administrative offices and toilets.

Adapted toilets and new air conditioning

With the reform project on the ground floor, the area for the general hall will be extended, as well as the bar, kitchen and pantry, the latter to adapt them to the ventilation conditions required by current regulations.

Likewise, the toilets will be reformed to adapt them to the regulations on accessibility, improve the energy efficiency and conditioning of the two petanque tracks located in the back area of ​​the plot.

The old partitions on the ground floor of the building are currently being demolished, located on Calle del Carmen, on the corner of Alto de las Atalayas Avenue and Gloria Street.

Subsequently, the new facilities will be introduced, the wall cladding will be carried out, new floors will be laid and new air conditioning and lighting machinery will be installed, among other works.

Investment Plan in Pedanías: new Espinardo Senior Center

This project that the City Council is executing in Cabezo de Torres is part of the Pedanías Investment Plan, which includes projects in ten other population centers: Espinardo, Corvera, Era Alta, Gea and Truyols, Guadalupe, Javalí Nuevo, Los Plan de Garres , Los Ramos, Santa Cruz and Zeneta.
