The pollution warning is deactivated after recovering the adequate levels of air quality. (20/01/2020)

The City of Murcia has deactivated the protocol of measures to be taken during episodes of air pollution by NO2, SO2, O3 and PM10, based on data from the Air Quality Portal of the Autonomous Community.

Murcia is one of the 8 Spanish cities and the only one in the Region of Murcia that has a pollution protocol, whose character is preventive and aims to put the health of people over any other consideration.

The City Council is developing the 'Clean Air' Strategy that includes numerous measures to reduce pollution and curb climate change.

These actions include the Adaptation Plan and the Climate Change Mitigation Plan, pedestrianization in the urban center areas, deterrent parking lots, the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, the promotion of the bicycle, the green paths, the Vehicle Strategy Electric or the Forest Plan.

In addition, last month the Government Board approved an agreement between the City Council, the University of Murcia and Emuasa that will allow the implementation of various technical and specific actions to anticipate and monitor air pollution in the municipality.

Also the Local Police carries out a special vigilance on the burning of pruning.

Thus, this weekend the Ecological Patrol denounced the authors of 12 burns.

In 2017, 44 files were opened for this reason, in 2018 67 files and in 2019 until November, 117, almost doubling the figure of the previous year.

This is in addition to the agreement established with ASAJA, which has allowed small farmers to provide a pruner and other awareness actions.

The 'Clean Air' Strategy includes other actions such as the gradual renewal of the bus fleet and the acquisition of new vehicles powered by biofuels, hybrids or electric vehicles, the creation of dissuasive car parks, periodic checks of the emissions of gases from vehicles in circulation, together with the Ecological Patrol of the Local Police (more than 1,000 vehicles per year), pedestrianization of 252,000 m2 and 4 areas of restricted traffic (267 streets), the Greenway, new network of bicycle lanes, Electric Vehicle strategy, Forest Plan 2030 and sustainable lighting, among other measures.
