The City Council will continue in February with the participatory process that will identify the Circular Economy initiatives of the municipality (19/01/2020)

The City Council will continue in February with the participatory process for the elaboration of the Circular Economy strategy that allows identifying the initiatives that are being carried out in the municipality.

This process is part of the diagnosis for the development of this strategy, promoted by the Department of Urban Agenda and Open Government, directed by Mercedes Bernabé.

“The identification of existing initiatives is essential for the preparation of the diagnostic document and for the future action plan, as it allows to know the degree of progress in this area and establish the baseline on which the new actions will be raisedâ€, highlights the mayor.

In this way, these initiatives will be framed in the identified axes: consumption, waste management, water management, sustainability of urban spaces, mobility and mainstreaming policies.

Thus, next February they will continue with the tables of companies, municipal contracts and experts in the field.

Specifically, two meetings will be held: one that will take place on February 3 and will be formed by the concessionary companies, as well as other entities with which the public administration regularly works, sector organizations and associations;

and another for February 10, which will host experts, sector entities, as well as professional associations and researchers and teachers in the academic field.

Councilwoman Mercedes Barnabas insists that citizen participation is key in this process of identifying initiatives.

"That is why we invite citizens to communicate circular economy initiatives that are being developed in the municipality using the channels enabled by the municipality," he says.

This phase is carried out simultaneously with the diagnostic work initiated in September on the collection and analysis of the relevant documentation.

The first table of participation process took place last November with the celebration of the sectorial table composed of the City Council technicians.

From there, 67 actions were taken, including the development of sustainable public procurement conditions, the promotion of stores without containers or plastics, the promotion of the rational use of medicines, the promotion of collection points for second-hand clothes, the Recycling of technological garbage, encouraging the compost of organic vegetable waste and the use of recycled paper, promoting sustainable businesses, among others.
