The discharges of land that are being carried out in a cleaning works on the slope of the main ditch have covered archaeological remains of facilities or an aqueduct linked to the primitive Jeronimos monastery located near the ferris wheel.
The Huerta Viva association has been able to verify that yesterday and today two excavating machines are pouring land on the left bank of the Aljufía major ditch next to the La Ñora wheel to open a path to access the aqueduct.
The wheel of La Ñora, from the 15th century, has been declared of cultural interest since 1982, and any intervention in it and its surroundings must be authorized by the General Directorate of Cultural Property in order to guarantee the good conservation of this emblematic monument of the Murcia orchard.
Apparently the Department of Urban Planning, Environment, Water and Garden, and the General Directorate of Cultural Property have given permission to the Board of Landowners to clean the slope of the ditch under the supervision of an architect, but Huerta Viva does not understand how an archaeologist has not been counted and archeological remains have been covered or destroyed that are possibly not investigated, belonging to facilities or an aqueduct linked to the primitive Jeronimos monastery that was located about 100 meters from the Ñora wheel.
In addition, garbage and debris that accumulated on the side of the ditch have not been cleaned, they have only been covered with a layer of soil.
For Huerta Viva, this type of interventions in the cultural heritage must have the maximum sensitivity and supervision by the promoters and the Administration, so they will ask the General Directorate of Cultural Property about the conditions under which the permission and if the existence of archaeological remains has been taken into account.
