We are a group of more than forty professors responsible for Environmental and Health Education programs in our educational centers in the municipality of Murcia.
We have been knitting the GREEN SCHOOL NETWORK in MURCIA for more than ten years, under the "protection" of the Department of Sustainable Development and Huerta, currently directed by Mr. Antonio Navarro Corchón.
This NETWORK has been possible thanks to the altruism of the teachers and the excellent work of the company hired by the city council in the last twenty years to coordinate and develop the activities of ECO school education.
In view of the environmental disasters and the current scientific reports, there is a clear social awareness of the need to involve all (older and younger) by acting in a responsible ECO manner in our daily lives to avoid greater evils in the face of the great challenges they entail: climate change, pollution of seas, rivers, soils and air, the terrible macro-fires on our planet, as well as the ecocide of our Mar Menor.
There is a growing demand for participation of colleges and institutes in these programs.
Coordinating and programming is a very arduous task, especially if it is necessary to ensure an equitable distribution of the scarce resources (personal and material) that the administration devotes to this issue.
For all this, we consider unpresentable and very damaging to our educational work and the achievement of objectives, which suddenly remain in SUSPENSE for at least a quarter, the environmental didactic itineraries and the ECOAULA activities planned in our educational centers, with the consequent disorder and disappointment for teachers and students.
We ask municipal officials to restore the program in the shortest possible time and never repeat this suspension in the middle of a course already scheduled.
The municipality of Murcia must arbitrate the appropriate administrative measures to avoid this disastrous situation and must comply with the commitment made with the 40 educational centers participating in the "Murcia, Ecology of a city" program, as we comply.
Murcia's candidacy to be a European Green Capital must be based on the effective and real development of solid ecological programs and with a projection of the future, respecting and promoting the values ​​of the networks woven for years altruistically by those who believe in the value of a true and integral ENVIRONMENTAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION.
