Free PDO Jumilla wine tastings every week at the headquarters of ´Murcia, Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020´ (15/01/2020)

The first, with wines from Bodegas Luzn, will take place this Friday at 8:00 p.m., on the ground floor of the Romea Theater.

The following will be held every Thursday of the year, prior web registration.

The mayor of Murcia, Jos Ballesta, together with the president of the Jumilla Protected Designation of Origin, Silvano Garca Abelln, today presented the cycle of PDO Jumilla tastings that are held within the stamp 'Murcia, Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020'.

“These are free events and open to the public that will take place once a week, throughout the year, and that aim to promote the products and raw materials of the Region of Murcia, within the Spanish Capital seal of the Gastronomy 2020 ”, said Mayor Jos Ballesta, who added that“ the 45 municipalities of the Region must claim the pride and identity of belonging to this land ”.

The first tasting, with wines from Bodegas Luzn, will take place this Friday afternoon, from 20.00 to 22.00, in the central office of 'Murcia, Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020', located on the ground floor of the Romea Theater.

The following will be held weekly, every Thursday of the year.

Specifically, the Jumilla PDO is composed of 42 wineries.

The maximum capacity is 30 people.

Within the Capital of Murcia 2020, new tastings of the Yecla and Bullas Designation of Origin will also be organized.

2,000 winegrowers and 19,000 hectares

The Jumilla PDO integrates about 2,000 wine growers and comprises 19,000 hectares of vineyards spread between the provinces of Murcia and Albacete (in total, it integrates seven municipalities: Jumilla and the Albacete Fuente-lamo, Helln, Tobarra, Albatana, Montealegre del Castillo and Ontur) .

It is considered as an emerging designation of origin for the quality and originality of its wines, and one of the most commercialized wines in Spain.

The Jumilla Designation of Origin has a winemaking tradition that dates back to the remains of vitis vinfera - along with utensils and archaeological remains - found in Jumilla originating in the year 3,000 BC, being the oldest in Europe.

The wineries that are part of this seal are Bleda, Asensio Carceln, BSI, Fernndez, San Dionisio, Santiago Apstol, Cooperativa Nuestra Seora de la Encarnacin, Silvano Garca, Alceo, Olivares, Venta de las Cuevas, Carchelo, Casa Castillo, Bodegas 1890 , Madores, Torrecastillo, Esencia wines Cellars, Luzn, Delampa, Via Elena, Salzillo, Juan Gil, Via Campanero, El Nido, Arloren, Xenysel, Po del Ramo, Cerrn, Sierra Norte, Ego Bodegas, Casa Rojo, El Lagar de las Puntillas, Bodegas Ribera del Ju, Valle del Bodegas and Viedos, Madrid Romero Winery, Ontalba, J. Garca Carrin, Bodegas Lo Nuevo.
