The City Council joins the UMU for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (14/01/2020)

The City Council has joined the SDG Forum on Sustainable Development, promoted by the University of Murcia.

The Councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, directed by Mercedes Bernabé, signed this morning the protocol for the constitution of this project, framed in the dissemination of the Sustainable Development Goals that will be developed until 2021.

The event has taken place in the Convalescence building of Murcia with representatives of a total of eleven institutions.

The rector of the UMU, José Luján, has led the day with the presence of the Minister of Transparency, Participation and Public Administration, Beatriz Ballesteros, in addition to the Vice Rector of Social Responsibility and Transparency of the UMU, Longinos Marín.

“This project, which until now was directed by the university community, will be destined to all Murcian society in order to work for sustainable development throughout the municipality of Murcia,†explains the mayor.

The Forum ODSesiones is configured as a space to promote participation and improve the dissemination of this project among the main economic and social institutions of the Region of Murcia.

Thus, the Autonomous Community, Murcia City Council, Molina de Segura City Council, Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia, Social Economic Council (CES), the employers' associations CROEM and UCOMUR, Comisiones Obreras, UGT;

and on behalf of the third EAPN Region of Murcia and the NGO Coordinator Region of Murcia.

The project will include numerous activities in the coming months, such as cultural activities, conferences, art exhibitions, learning workshops, volunteer programs, as well as strategies and plans to promote the SDGs throughout the region.

“Through this alliance, the City Council increases its capacity to approach the Sustainable Development Goals, framed by the United Nations, on which we are already working,†says Mercedes Bernabé.

ODSessions has recently been at the Climate Summit, held in Madrid, and at the 7th International Conference on Sustainable Development, held at the headquarters of the University of Colombia in New York.

He has also received the 'Rainbow' award from Ucomur.
