The PSOE denounces the abandonment to which the PP submits to museums, without uniformity in schedules, contents or personnel (13/01/2020)

The Socialist Municipal Group wants to denounce the different deficiencies that the municipally owned museums of the City of Murcia have and that give an image of carelessness and inequality in schedules, content and staff.

These are also centers that are not part of the Regional Museum System, where they are owned by the Autonomous Community, or the Directory of Museums and Collections of Spain, which would allow obtaining benefits in terms of restoration, promotion and obtaining of help.

The socialist councilor Enrique Lorca affirms that, after analyzing the existing information and the different web pages, "we verify that each museum is an independent island, there is no uniformity".

In this sense, he states that "apart from the fact that they do not have agreed schedules, nor enough staff, they also do not coordinate programming and in terms of social networks, each museum goes free," and also notes "the unequal maintenance of the contents in their different web pages and on the websites of the City Council, as well as its lack of updating ".

"We have verified that the figures and data published on the Internet are only offered by the City Museum. In short, they do not hold any common similarity, which can identify them as centers of the City of Murcia, not only for the inhabitants of the municipality, but, and above all, in the face of tourist visits. "

The councilor states that being part of the Regional Museum System will be an indispensable condition for the granting by the Autonomous Community of the following benefits: Granting of financial assistance for current activities and expenses, studies and research of its funds, publications and teaching materials and training of technical personnel;

reception of the deposits of parts that are agreed upon, preferential incorporation to the exhibition circuits and other itinerant activities that are organized, preference for the publication of guides and catalogs within the official series or for the participation in staff training courses specialized, and priority inclusion in cultural and tourist itineraries promoted by the Regional Administration.

In addition, municipal museums could also benefit from preferential access to the restoration treatment of pieces belonging to their collections by the regional technical services.

For all this, Lorca says that this uneven management of municipal museums is causing them to be no more visited and due promotion and knowledge of the content they exhibit.

"Their usefulness is limited to the custody of the funds they show, without further travel."

For this reason, he announces that he will ask the Department of Culture, at least and as soon as possible, to be included in the Regional Museum System and that the gaps be remedied so that our museums also become one of the reasons to visit Murcia ".

He adds that bringing heritage closer to society is one of the main aims of the museum, an objective that is achieved by developing communication, exhibition and education strategies.
