Patiño hosts a massive Gang Meeting and shows the roots of Murcia as the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy (12/01/2020)

More than 10,000 people have attended the XXXII Meeting of Patiño Gangs, held in memory of Manuel Cárceles, 'El Patiñero', who established the basis for this event.

During the day more than 100,000 balls will be offered to neighbors and visitors.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with members of the Municipal Corporation, attended the Mass of Aguilando of the XXXII Gang Meeting this morning, an event organized by the Huerta de La Hijuela in memory of Manuel Cárceles, 'El Patiñero', which It has brought together more than 10,000 attendees.

"In addition to bringing us the music and characteristic dances that are part of Murcia's identity, this festival is, in turn, a sample of the culinary roots of our land, which this year is the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy," said José Ballesta during the celebration.

On this occasion, in the XXXII Gang Meeting, six groups participated, who were in charge of interpreting the music and dances characteristic of Murcia's identity, such as the jacks, malagueñas and seguidillas.

Specifically, the participating crews were the Patiño Gang, Aledo Gang, Purias Lorca Gang, Torreagüera Gang, Almeria Chirivel Gang and the San Blas de Bullas Animeros.

Distribution of more than 100,000 balls

During the day the chocolate breakfast with churros was held, in the Plaza of the Church of Patiño, the Mass of Aguilando, the performances of the gangs on the Boulevard Manuel Cárceles 'El Patiñero' and the traditional distribution of balls, in the that more than 100,000 portions are being offered to attendees.

In total, 17 groups of 'Peloteras' have prepared this dish.

At the end of the meal, the dances and music will resume, around 4 pm, and continue throughout the afternoon.

The origin of this party, since 1989

The First Gang Meeting was held in January 1989, in the Plaza de la Iglesia de Patiño, attended by the gangs of Zarzadilla de Totana, Fuente Álamo, Aledo, Las Palas, Raiguero de Totana, Vélez Rubio, de la Peña La Silk and the Patiño Gang.
