The Mobile Emergency and Social Assistance Service of the City of Murcia (SEMAS) last night made a new departure from the 'Cold Operation', homeless care device because of the low temperatures.
In total, 6 people were attended (5 men and 1 woman) of which two are Spanish, two Bulgarian, a Moroccan and a Colombian.
They were handed six hot drinks, three sleeping bags and a blanket.
The areas that were covered were the Barrio El Carmen, Zona Centro, Plano de San Francisco, neighborhood of San Antolín, neighborhood of San Andrés, neighborhood of San Antón and neighborhood of Santa María de Gracia.
It should be noted that during the departure a man was drunk while he was sleeping without a coat on a bench in the Plaza Agustinas with a serious risk of having suffered hypothermia.
The components of the device are permanently alert but when the temperature drops below 5 degrees the output becomes more exhaustive, providing an information, attention, accompaniment and delivery service for hot drinks, food, sleeping bags or blankets to serve people without home that are in extreme situations, trying to promote their social integration.
Thus, SEMAS travels through the streets, gardens, ATMs and garden areas of the municipality, helping people who sleep on public roads and need it, to whom blankets, sleeping bags, raincoats, hot drinks are delivered. etc., according to the needs of each case.
Depending on the specific circumstances of each person, different resources are also offered, such as the transfer to the center of the Abandoned Jesus Foundation or to the RAIS Foundation, other accommodations, or hospital centers, if necessary, in addition to monitoring .
The Mobile Emergency and Social Assistance Service, composed of social workers from the City Council and Local Police agents, depends on the Department of Social and Family Rights, which Pilar Torres directs.
