The information phase of the 'Sum 1' campaign begins to make the new brown container known to La Flota neighbors (09/01/2020)

The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, will visit this afternoon the garden of the Three Cups where the information phase of the 'Sum 1' campaign will begin to inform the residents of La Flota the new brown container for collecting Organic waste that will be placed the last week of February in this neighborhood.

The campaign is part of the ValueWaste project, a program of the European Union to convert urban organic waste into strategic economic resources.

The project has 17 partners of 6 different nationalities, among which the City of Murcia and the City of Kalundborg (Denmark), municipalities in which the pilot projects are carried out.

Murcia has the support of Ferrovial Services for the implementation of good practice at the local level, being the implementation of the information and awareness campaign, the collection of organic waste until its subsequent treatment in the Cñada of Cañada Hermosa.

The neighborhood of La Flota has been chosen for the project that will become the representative of Murcia in Europe because it is the neighborhood that concentrates the highest concentration of young population and records the most collaborative waste collection data in the municipality.

The campaign that was presented last December now reaches all the residents of the Fleet through a patrol of informants who will announce its use, location and all the details.

In the beginning, the clean point that weekly visits the neighborhood as a point of contact with citizens will be used.

There, both the usual service operator and the informants will explain to the neighbors what the new container will consist of, how to use it correctly and the reasons and advantages of their collaboration.

At the same time, presentations are being organized in centers and associations such as neighborhood, senior and women's centers.

These new containers that will be launched in the last weeks of February, will have a capacity of 2,200 liters and will incorporate a lid that closes it completely to avoid odors.

They will be placed next to the existing selective collection points in the area and the neighbors who request it have at their disposal a small domestic container designed for this type of waste that must always be used with compostable bags.

Thus, organic residues of fruit and vegetables, remains of cooked food, eggshells, shellfish and nuts, coffee grounds and infusions or corks, matches and sawdust are considered organic waste.

This new brown lid container completes the Murcia recycling system that already has a yellow container for light plastic, metal and bricks containers, a blue container for paper and cardboard, the green igloo for glass and clean ecopoints for oils , light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, batteries and batteries, empty cans of varnish or paint, small electronic scrap, x-rays, clothing and toys, etc.
