Navarro: "Murcia is one of the few Spanish cities that has a protocol of measures to be taken for episodes of air pollution" (02/01/2020)

The Councilor for Urban Planning, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, has responded to the spokesman of the Municipal Socialist Group, José Antonio Serrano, that “Murcia is one of the eight Spanish cities and the only one in the Region that has a protocol of measures to adopt by air pollution episodes.

This adds to our 'Clean Air' Strategy that includes numerous measures to reduce pollution and curb climate change. â€

"We have implemented different actions that highlight the involvement and awareness of the Government Team to make Murcia a more livable, sustainable and environmentally friendly municipality," said Navarro.

The councilor has listed some of these actions such as the Adaptation Plan and the Mitigation of Climate Change, pedestrianization in the areas of the urban center, deterrent parking, the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, the promotion of the bicycle, the green paths , the Electric Vehicle Strategy or the Forest Plan among others â€.

In addition, Navarro recalled that "last month the Government Board approved an agreement between the City Council, the University of Murcia and Emuasa that will allow the implementation of various technical and specific actions to anticipate and monitor air pollution in the municipality" .

The councilor has also insisted on the prohibition of carrying out agricultural burns and the special surveillance carried out by the City Council in this matter.

Thus, in 2017, 44 files were opened for this reason, in 2018 67 files and in 2019 until November, 117, almost doubling the figure of the previous year.

This is in addition to the agreement established with ASAJA, which has allowed small farmers to provide a pruner and other awareness actions.

These actions are part of the 'Clean Air' Strategy promoted by the Government of José Ballesta and that includes actions such as the gradual renewal of the bus fleet and the acquisition of new vehicles powered by biofuels, hybrids or electric vehicles, the creation of deterrent parking lots, controls Newspapers of gas emissions from vehicles in circulation, together with the Ecological Patrol of the Local Police (more than 1,000 vehicles per year), pedestrianization of 252,000 m2 and 4 restricted traffic areas (267 streets), the Greenway, new network of bike lanes, Electric Vehicle strategy, 2030 Forest Plan and sustainable lighting, among other measures.

“All these measures are a clear example that pollution concerns us and concerns us and that, instead of generating alarm for the population in common anticyclonic situations in other cities in Spain, we exercise responsibility by developing all these actions that contribute to the improvement of the environmental quality â€, the councilor has finished.
