The Juana Jugán de Puente Tocinos fountain will have 40 water jets and underwater LED lights (29/12/2019)

The actions include the renovation of the vessel, waterproofing treatments, the execution of a perimeter wall and a new pumping equipment.

This installation is part of the Pool Plan, the City Council strategy to recover the ponds of La Seda, El Salitre, Los Patos, in San Ginés, and Fofó Park, as well as the sources of the Circular Square, the Clock Tower House (Puente Tocinos), the José Cánovas Ortiz garden (Beniaján) and the Avenida de la Libertad (Guadalupe).

"The neighbors will have a reference space, whose work will improve the quality of life of citizens," said Councilman José Guillén.

The City Council, through the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, directed by José Guillén, has begun the renovation of the Juana Jugán de Puente Tocinos fountain, 175 square meters in size.

Between the works they emphasize the demolition of the current glass and the execution of a new one by means of the slab of reinforced concrete, for which waterproofing treatments will be carried out in order to avoid water problems.

The actions, carried out by the STV Gestión concessionary company, also contemplate the realization of a perimeter wall that will allow the creation of a new 'vessel', together with essential elements such as a new pumping equipment and a double concentric nozzle ring;

thus allowing the source of Juana Jugán to have approximately 40 water jets that will be the point of attention for the neighbors of the district.

The installation will also feature new underwater LED lights, which will beautify the fountain and will highlight the new water jets much more, so that neighbors can go to this space throughout the day.

"The inhabitants of Puente Tocinos can enjoy in less than two months with a new reference space, whose work will improve, not only the aesthetics and functionality of the installation, but also the quality of life of citizens," said Councilor José Guillén .

Pool Plan

The 2023 Pool Plan encompasses four major measures, including the renovation of nine major works, such as the four ponds, such as La Seda, El Salitre, Los Patos, in San Ginés, and Fofó Park, and the five Historical fountains, such as the Circular Square, the Clock Tower House (Tocinos Bridge), the José Cánovas Ortiz Garden (Beniaján), the Juana Jugán Avenue (Tocinos Bridge) and the Liberty Avenue (Guadalupe).

The construction of ten new ornamental fountains in the most emblematic places of the city, such as Santo Domingo and San Esteban;

the holding of an annual contest of ideas, in which the winning project will be executed;

and the investment of 100,000 euros per year for the construction of new sources in the municipality and its districts, for five years, are the other three major measures that make up the 2023 Pool Plan.

"Water is very present in the history of our city, it is an indispensable element in Mediterranean gardens from its origins and we are going to give it a central place in these spaces," says the mayor.
