Both monuments declared of Cultural Interest, and dating from the twelfth century, are mired in the deepest deterioration and abandonment.

An investigation that has been paralyzed for months and without recent known activity, indicate from the collective.

The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) denounces the serious deterioration suffered by the castles of the Puerto de la Cadena in Murcia, specifically the strengths of the Lower and Upper Portazgo, whose origins date back to the twelfth century and that they currently hold the category of BIC Cultural Interest Asset, the highest cultural protection granted by the heritage law given its important heritage value.

These castles, nestled in the Regional Park of El Valle and Carrascoy, are completely abandoned, full of weeds, graffiti, garbage, and a long string of damage and worrying breakages.

This situation was denounced by Huermur before the Ministry of Culture for years without today this regional administration with competence in the matter has done the least to solve this situation, urge urgent measures, or at least deigned to respond to complaints

These castles of the Puerto de la Cadena were included, at the request of Huermur, in the investigation opened by the Regional Assembly in order to inquire about the poor state of conservation and deterioration of the fortresses and castles of the garden of Murcia, where it is also investigated the deterioration of castles such as Monteagudo, Los Garres, Cabezo de Torres, La Asomada, Cabezo del Moro, or the castle of La Luz among many others.

An investigation that has been paralyzed for months and without recent known activity, indicate from the collective.

Huermur, in a recent visit to the two medieval castles of the Puerto de la Cadena, has been able to verify how the weeds, even pines of thick caliber, grow without control over the walls of the 12th century without appreciating any maintenance for decades, which will end causing if it is not remedied, the fall of walls by the effect of the roots of the woodland, and breaks of difficult and expensive solution.

The conservation entity also points out the poor and dangerous access to the Castle of the Portazgo Superior, which were remodeled during the improvement works of the A-30 motorway in Puerto de la Cadena, but which have not been maintained or repaired for years. , nor cleaned, which has caused a situation of almost total inaccessibility, and a bad image for tourism to visit them.

In the same situation is, indicate from Huermur, the lower Portazgo castle, next to the highway and the completely abandoned recreational area.

Over this castle weeds grow, huge graffiti has been made, and the recreational area of the area is completely destroyed, they indicate from the entity.

In this regard, the president of Huermur, Sergio Pacheco, said: “It is a real shame that these two medieval castles of the twelfth century are practically plunged into chaos, with broken and unhealthy access, and a recreational area next to the highway that looks like a 'marranera', totally decomposed by vandalism and lack of cleanliness ”, and wonders if“ is this the image that we want to give to the tourism that visits us, or to the Murcia themselves who come to see everything this?

It is unfortunate".

Finally, Huermur indicates that he will reiterate all the complaints to the Ministry of Culture by providing photographic dossiers of his current state, he will also communicate this situation to the City of Murcia, and if in a reasonable period of time no measures are taken and he urges Due protection and safeguard of this cultural legacy of all Murcia, responsibilities will be demanded from the leaders of the competent administrations.
