Dionisia García, Laura Gil and the Coral Discantus will be distinguished by the city of Murcia (19/12/2019)

The Plenary Session of the City of Murcia, held today, has initiated the file for the granting of various honors and distinctions to Dionisia García Sánchez, Laura Gil Collado and the Coral Discantus.

Thus, Dionisia García Sánchez will be named Adoptive Daughter of the City of Murcia for her professional career as a poet and writer in addition to her relationship with the city.

He was born in Fuente Álamo (Albacete) in 1929 but years later he studied Romance Philology at the University of Murcia, where he has lived for decades.

“García has been an ambassador of our land and a great diffuser of the delights of the city of Murcia described in the best way in some of his works that refer to our landscape and Murcian spaces,†explains Mercedes Bernabé.

Dionisia García is among the most recognized writers of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, is included in Murcia street and has received dozens of awards.

It also gives its name to one of the most important poetry prizes in the Region organized by the University of Murcia.

Likewise, the plenary session has also approved to begin the process to appoint Laura Gil Collado, Favorite Daughter of the City of Murcia for her renowned sports prestige.

The Murcian athlete has been international in all the lower categories of the Spanish team, achieving the record of nine medals in 6 years, between European and world championships.

Since his debut in the national team he has won European gold, and Olympic and world silver.

She is also the first female Olympic medalist in the Region since in 2016 she won the silver medal at the Rio de Janeiro Games.

In the same way, the Plenary wants to recognize the Discantus Coral for its 25 years of professional career by awarding it the Silver Medal of the City of Murcia.

The group emerged in 1995 proposed by its founder and head director, Angel Luis Carrillo Gimeno.

Composed of about eighty members in its Official Section, this choir also maintains a Chamber Choir, a Children's Section, a Youth Section and a University Section, reaching almost 400 active components.

It is a national-level musical entity, which has earned it dozens of awards, including the Silver Medal at the International Choral Olympics in Xiamen (China) and the 2011 Promussian Award.

It is worth highlighting its more than 1,500 performances, many of them in different countries, 16 recorded albums and dozens of beneficial concerts.

In addition, the Plenary approved in September to grant the Gold Medal of the City of Murcia to all people, institutions and companies that turned to help Murcia families during the episode of heavy rains, in a selfless and altruistic way.

The City Council recognizes the gratitude of all the people, institutions and companies, valuing that wave of generosity and solidarity.
