Murcia celebrates Migrant Day with an allegation of cultural wealth and human rights (18/12/2019)

The Plenary Hall hosted an institutional event to commemorate this event, which was attended by representatives of about forty entities.

Murcia has celebrated this afternoon the International Migrant Day, with a collective plea for cultural wealth, the spirit of overcoming and human rights, in an institutional event that took place this afternoon in the Plenary Hall of the City Hall and to which they have attended representatives of nearly forty entities.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, chaired this meeting.

"Murcia are children of miscegenation and our main difference is that we are not different from anyone," said the Murcian alderman, who added that "since its origins and historical roots, Murcia has been a crossroads of civilizations in which people from various races, religions, colors and blood.

Participating Entities

The event was attended by the president of the Federation of African Associations of Murcia, MadyCisse Ba, as well as representatives of the Senegalese Association, Ivory Coast Association, Nigeria Association, World Cultures Association, Ghana Association, Burjina Faso Association, Fassoton Association from Mali, Arab Flower Association.

Representatives of the Association of Ukrainians of the Region of Murcia, of the Rumaniñahui Association, of the Bolivian Roots Association, of FM Radio Sensation, of Super MIX Fm, of the Folkloric Conquest Sociocultural Association, of Cuentilandia World of Diversity and Interculturality, also attended, of the Association of Residents and Groups of Bolivians of the Region of Murcia, of the Association of Foreign Residents in the Region of Murcia, of the National Federation of Associations of Immigrants Refugees Countries in Spain, as well as El uncle de La Barca.

Also represented were the Mundo Esperanza Project Association, the SumacTushuy Folk Dance cultural group, the Ibn Arabi Association, the Mixtura ADN El Carmen project, the Murcia Hosts Association, Columbares Association, CEPAIM, Cáritas, Spanish Red Cross, ACCEM, Rasinet, Association Neri, ASESTEMUR, Abraham Project Association, CATS Association, Jesus Abandoned Patronage Foundation and Oblate Murcia.

A song 'Of all colors'

During the meeting, the music video 'Inshalla' was screened, made by volunteers and participants of the Diocesan Caritas Shelter program in Cartagena.

The dance was also the protagonist in this meeting, since the choreography of the song 'Of all colors' was performed.

Likewise, the director of Radio Sensation FM-Ecuador, as representative of the migrant collective, intervened and a testimony was read from a participant of the workshop 'Triunfadores', given by Cáritas Diocesana de Cartagena.

Almost 60,000 registrations

As of November 17, 2019, the municipality records 59,338 registrations of people with a nationality other than Spanish in the municipality of Murcia, of which 30,678 are men and 28,660 women.

In total, the municipality registers 461,900 registrations.
