The third edition of 'Fish with art' will affect the consumption of local and seasonal species and their artisanal capture (16/12/2019)

Publicize the environmental and gastronomic value of artisanal fishing to the public, promote the consumption of local fish, teach how to differentiate seasonal species, learn to interpret the labeling of fresh produce and make a responsible purchase are some of the objectives that pursues the third edition of 'Fish with art', of the Columbares Association.

The program, which was presented this morning by the Councilor for Commerce, Markets and Public Roads, Juan Fernando Hernández, the project coordinator, Carmen Molina, and members of Columbares, intends to bring the natural and marine heritage of the coast of the Region closer to Murcia and that these are protagonists of the elaboration of delicious recipes with sea flavor.

Workshops

In this third edition, two types of activities have been organized: the 'Peceando' workshops, for students of 5th and 6th grade of primary schools in the municipality of Murcia;

and 'I cook sustainable fish', an activity to train future chefs about the importance of a responsible purchase for the conservation of the sea.

In both cases, dynamics will be included in the fresh fishmongers of the Verónica food market and, in the case of the gastronomic workshop 'Peceando', the youngest will prepare different recipes with local fish, guided by chef Alberto Lorca.

Programming

This week they are scheduled for days 17, 18 and 19, together with the School of Hospitality and Tourism of Murcia, the workshops 'I cook sustainable fish'.

The rest will be programmed throughout 2020.

In the case of the 'Peceando' workshops, they will be held, during school hours, on January 31;

February 5, 19 and 28;

March 4, 18 and 27;

April 1, 24 and 29;

May 6, 20 and 29, and June 3 and 17.

These workshops are free.

The mayor Juan Fernando Hernández has stressed "the importance of promoting and supporting initiatives of this type, aimed at raising awareness of Murcia's cultural, social, environmental and gastronomic importance of artisanal fishing and value our traditional municipal markets, promote the Proximity purchase and consumption of local and seasonal products. "

More than 7,000 people in 2019

The third edition of 'Fish with art' is an initiative of the Columbares Association and the Association of Artisanal Fishermen of the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata-Nijar (PESCARTES) to raise awareness of the value of artisanal fisheries caught along the coast Murcia-Almeria and promote the consumption of sustainable fishery products.

During the year 2019, more than 7,000 people participated in the numerous events that have been organized around 'Fish with art'.

The project is supported by the Biodiversity Foundation, the Ministry for Ecological Transition, through the Pleamar Program, co-financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, in collaboration with the University of Murcia, the Amureco and Fornet Association.

'Pescados con arte' contributes to achieving the objectives of the LIFE IP INTEMARES project "Integrated, innovative and participatory management of the Natura 2000 Network in the Spanish marine environment".
