An agreement with Asaja will allow further actions to prevent agricultural burns in the municipality (13/12/2019)

The Governing Board has approved the collaboration agreement with the Regional Association of Agricultural and Livestock Companies of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, for the promotion of organic farming and the promotion of sustainable garden development models.

For this, the expense of 20,000 euros has been authorized.

In this way, both institutions seek to carry out activities focused on the promotion of actions aimed at the protection of the environment and the sustainable development of the Huerta de Murcia through the promotion of organic farming and the proper management of agricultural waste.

What is intended is to avoid the agricultural burns of the municipality that are prohibited and that can only be carried out in those cases in which there is a report from the Ministry with powers in Plant Health regarding the existence of a pest or in its prevention, and complying with the basic recommendations aimed at protecting air quality and health.

This new agreement adds to the collaboration protocol already signed and that has allowed the acquisition of crushing machinery for pruning remains, which became operational last September.

Now a service is proposed to farmers in the municipality who can use this crushing machine for two hours per user.

In addition, campaigns will be carried out to disseminate and disseminate the activities and the promotion of techniques and use of organic farming, of the municipal Land Bank system, of the crushing techniques of agricultural remains from pruning and their reuse.

There will also be a training course in organic farming that will consist of 10 theoretical hours and five practices and three days of dissemination of use of pruning remains and climate change adaptation strategy of the municipality.

In the first eleven months of the year, the number of sanctions imposed or pending due to agricultural burns amounts to 117. This figure exceeds significantly the records of 2018, which were recorded 67, and 2017, with 44.

This agreement is part of the municipal strategy 'Clean Air' that includes numerous measures to reduce pollution and curb climate change, such as pedestrianization of urban environments, the commitment to clean media in public transport and road cleaning services , for free alternative services to agricultural burning and the promotion of green areas, the Electric Vehicle and Bicycle Strategy and the implementation of the 2030 Forest Plan.
