The Governing Board has approved the extension of the agreement with the Sustainable Development Foundation for the development of advisory, dissemination, training, education and information activities on sustainability.
In this way, work will continue to facilitate the integration of photovoltaic solar energy in the domestic and business sectors, this being an effective saving measure, both economically, substantially reducing electricity and environmental expenses, reducing emissions from greenhouse gases.
In addition, training and advice activities will be carried out for the creation and maintenance of family and / or school ecological gardens, knowledge of biodiversity, renewable energy and climate change, and the fight against erosion and nursery.
The Environmental and Solar Energy Center Fuente de Columbares is the space where environmental awareness and education activities aimed at school groups and associations take place.
One of the projects resulting from this agreement, which was signed in September 2016, is the initiative 'My Cole Saves with Energy, designed to boost savings, energy efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the centers of Murcia through the awareness and participation of students, teachers and the rest of the educational community.
In 2018, the first year of the pilot experience, the dozen educational centers stopped emitting the equivalent of more than 22 Tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, of which almost 60% are linked to electricity savings.
The other 40% corresponds to the decrease in water consumption.
There are currently 20 public schools participating in this program.
The Department of Sustainable Development and Huerta will grant, thanks to the extension of the agreement, 21,000 euros to the Sustainable Development Foundation.
