The PSOE requires a municipality free of sexist advertising (13/12/2019)

"I want a municipality that does not treat women as things. The City Council has the capacity to prohibit sexist advertising and end the inequality roles. It is under the obligation to act"

Regulate sexist advertising and that the Local Administration establish sanctioning measures so as not to continue perpetuating the macho behaviors of society.

This is the objective pursued by the Socialist Party.

For this, he will present a motion in the next plenary asking for the prohibition and sanction by means of a municipal ordinance of this type of publicity in the municipality of Murcia.

"Our city, neighborhoods and districts are witnessing the proliferation of sexist advertising. It is a reality that we live with and that we cannot ignore or normalize. Large-format billboards or advertising brochures flood our streets, avenues and public parking lots. that prolong the image of women as an object of consumption, "says the councilor.

"When advertisers in our municipality treat women as one thing, as a consumable, sexual claim, they are using a socialization tool to perpetuate stereotypes and inequalities," explains mayor Teresa Franco.

"We want a municipality free of sexist advertising, a municipality that does not treat women as things. As long as there are advertising posters using women as a consumer claim, there will be no equality," Franco says.

"To the young people who see these ads in our municipality, we are teaching that there are two types of people: men (consume) and women (consumables). Youth cannot normalize that women are one thing. Attentive against freedom of human beings, "claims the socialist mayor.

"Murcia has to stop being a city of inequality. This City Council has the power, capacity and political responsibility to create norms accompanied by sanctioning measures that regulate the behavior of society," says Franco.

Therefore, the Municipal Socialist Group will demand in the next plenary session the modification or creation of ordinance that regulates and sanctions sexist advertising.

"In addition, we ask that it be done at a technical table with representation of the political groups of the Corporation, technical staff of the City Council in the area of Equality and University of Murcia," concludes Franco.
