UCOMUR gives the UMU Rainbow Award for its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (05/12/2019)

The University of Murcia (UMU) received a 'Arco Iris' award on Wednesday, awarded by the Union of Associated Labor Cooperatives of the Region of Murcia (Ucomur), in recognition of those people, organizations and institutions that best represent the values of cooperativism.

Ucomur recognized the commitment of the UMU for the Sustainable Development Goals through the ODSesiones project, which from January 2019 to April 2020 organizes about 300 activities around each of the 17 SDGs established by the United Nations in the Agenda 2030

The award was collected by the rector of the UMU, José Luján, who this week attended the Climate Summit of Madrid 2019, where the vice chancellor of Social Responsibility and Transparency of the UMU, Longinos Marín, presented the ODSesiones project with a conference Other Spanish universities.

Together with this initiative of the UMU, Ucomur awarded the Herma teaching cooperative for its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and the Emergency Military Unit, UME, which received a special award in recognition of the work done in the emergency situation caused by DANA last September in the Region of Murcia.

These awards are part of the XXIX World Cooperativism Day, held at the Víctor Villegas Auditorium in Murcia and which was attended by 1,300 people.

It is a meeting day between all the cooperatives and those who have contributed most to the promotion and development of this model in the Region.

Under the slogan 'Concern for people', the act was attended by the Minister of Labor of the Government of Spain, Magdalena Valerio;

the president of the CARM, Fernando López Miras;

the general director of the Autonomous Work of the Ministry of Labor, María Antonia Pérez;

the Minister of Education and Culture, Esperanza Moreno;

the Minister of Employment, Research and Universities, Miguel Motas;

the Government delegate, Francisco Jiménez;

and the president of the Regional Assembly, Alberto Castillo;

among other political representatives.

After organizing thematic activities on 'End of poverty' (SDG 1), 'Zero hunger' (SDG 2), 'Health and Wellbeing' (SDG 3), 'Quality education' (SDG 4), 'Gender equality '(SDG 5) and' Water and Sanitation '(SDG 6), this month SDGs organizes a dozen activities until December 19 in the framework of SDG 7:' Affordable and non-polluting energy '.

ODSesiones is a project that has the support of the regional government, Aguas de Murcia, Bankia and Fundación Cajamurcia.
