Murcia will celebrate the International Volunteer Day Week from December 1 to 5 (29/11/2019)

The Department of Social and Family Rights has organized, on the occasion of International Volunteer Day, a week of activities dedicated to highlighting the important work carried out by volunteers in the municipality and which will take place from December 1 to 5.

This International Volunteer Day Celebration Week will begin on December 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Baños and Mendigo, where an interpretation route will be held through a space defined by its enormous anthropological burden (aqueducts, terraces, reservoirs, hamlets, etc.) , religious (huge hermitages of the XVII century) and landscape (badlans).

This activity seeks to publicize our history and thereby encourage respect among different peoples through the knowledge of oneself as a society.

In addition, from 2 to 4 December, different tents will be installed in different parts of the urban area (day 2 in Glorieta de España, day 3 in the Plaza Santo Domingo and day 4 on Avenida de la Libertad) to publicize the work of volunteers and encourage Murcia to participate in this program.

On December 5 in the Plaza de Santo Domingo, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., there will be a dissemination activity on volunteering with animation, distribution of brochures, balloons, ambient music and workshops.

This City Council wants to take the opportunity to congratulate and thank all those who altruistically give part of their time and dedication to others, thereby achieving a more equitable and responsible world.

The Councilor for Social Rights and Family, Pilar Torres, explained that "social volunteering is one of the forms of expression of solidarity in actions that contribute to social welfare and general interest. Voluntary action is also an instrument of social participation that it allows citizens to be linked to the knowledge of social needs and collaboration through actions, whether individual, group or community. "

The Social Services of the City of Murcia have been developing an important work in the field of Social Volunteering through their own projects and actions as well as support and coordination with social entities.

The City Council has Volunteer Offices located in each of the three municipal Social Services centers whose objective is "to maximize the levels of global citizenship, understood as the active commitment in achieving a more equitable and sustainable world, the commitment to respect and valuation of diversity, defense of the environment, responsible consumption and respect for individual and social human rights in the municipality of Murcia, "said Torres.

At present, a total of 190 people are registered as volunteers, 92 of them from the Murcia City Volunteer Office, 38 from Murcia North and 60 from Murcia South.

The councilor explained that "there is no specific profile of a volunteer, volunteering can be carried out by anyone with an interest in contributing their time and experience."

These volunteers participate in this Department in the following Programs:

Immigrant women and communication: in Spanish language and culture workshops, mediation and interpreter in Arabic and support in working with intercultural groups.

Support and support in the management of documentation and resources for people in social difficulty.

Socio-educational support for minors in social difficulty and participation in leisure and free time activities with minors.

Support and accompaniment at leisure to older people or people with functional diversity.

Collaboration in awareness campaigns on solidarity values ​​in educational centers.
