15,000 primary school students from 155 schools in the municipality of Murcia participated during the past year in the awareness campaign 'Murcia sustainable city', which annually develops the Department of Sustainable Mobility and Youth, directed by Rebeca Pérez, along with Ferrovial Services.

Schoolchildren have received talks, dynamics and practical workshops in their centers.

In addition, 4,453 students from 108 schools visited the Cañada Hermosa treatment plant, knowing in situ what happens to the waste once it is deposited in the container, and how it is revalued by obtaining biogas, electricity, fertilizers or fertilizers from them.

The activities carried out both inside and outside the classroom follow two lines of work: cleaning and waste.

Thus, in terms of cleanliness, information about the ordinance and simple tips to comply with it, which visibly improve the city such as collecting pet feces, deposit chewing gum, are disclosed both in schools and in activities carried out with the general public. in the bins, or not throwing wrappers on the floor ...

Regarding waste, students and public attending the Circular Economy are introduced with the slogan 'Turn your waste into resources'.

Completing the three waste of waste Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, with other new waste that are added to its formation such as Rethink, (think before buying), Reject (products with excess packaging, improper use of disposable plastic, responsible consumption, etc.), and Repair (fix before throwing and buying again), etc.

The importance of using the mobile ecopoint for special household waste (batteries, oils, small electronics, etc.) is also an important part of this activity.

In addition, 11,485 students have participated in the annual Christmas drawing contest, with messages related to waste recycling, raising awareness about the importance of caring for and preserving the environment, being the non-use of single-use plastics one of the main themes .

In this regard, 30,000 bags and backpacks have been distributed from the council to take lunch to class.

All this adds to actions implemented by other councilors, such as Urban Development and Huerta with its program 'Murcia, ecology of a city free of plastics' consisting of environmental information activities for schoolchildren from 50 schools with a clear objective: reduce the production of plastic waste.

Also from Education and Nursery Schools, within the project 'My city teaches', 15 workshops related to the care of the environment, the use of alternative resources and the transformation of waste into resources are carried out.
