The southern neighborhoods will have their own Christmas Star in the water tank of the Artillery Barracks (26/11/2019)

Six teams of creatives from different disciplines will turn the different spaces of Pavilion 1 into Christmas stays with the Tree as the protagonist.

This pavilion will be open throughout Christmas so that Murcia know their status after the rehabilitation works and the different artistic interventions

The Councilor for Culture and Heritage Recovery, Jesús Pacheco, presented this morning a new initiative that will be developed at the Artillery Barracks during Christmas and is part of the temporary program prior to the cultural project to be developed in these facilities .

On the one hand, the water tank, emblem of the Artillery Barracks, will become a Christmas Star thanks to the performance 'Octantis' that will develop the young Pinball architecture studio, which in September of this year received the Audience Award in the latest edition of the 72 Hour Urban Action in Lobeda (Germany), the first real-time architecture competition in which international teams design, build and live together for three days.

Among other merits in the Creative Lighting discipline, in 2018 they designed and built one of the most acclaimed installations of the Bright Brussels Lighting Festival in Brussels.

Jesús Pacheco has explained that "we want the southern neighborhoods to have their own Christmas Star and to regain their centrality and prominence. At the same time we want to enhance the talent of our young people by offering this space to develop their creativity."

'Octantis', which is the star that indicates the south, will illuminate the entire Barracks Space during this Christmas, filling the iconic water tank with LED lights and sound.

On the other hand, in Pavilion 1 an original artistic intervention will be developed through a real-time design and creation contest, aimed at creators of any field and discipline such as art, fashion, industrial, design, music, architecture, visuals, interior design ...

All those interested in participating, either individually or collectively, must send an email to salonesnavidenos@gmail.com before midnight on December 4, with the subject NAME_SALONESNAVIDEĂ‘OS_2019, which will include the following information: full name, DNI, contact person and address (telephone and email) and creative profile or CV.

Thus, on December 9, all those registered will be divided into six multidisciplinary groups and will receive 1,500 euros to create, until December 13 in the different rooms of the barracks, Christmas stays where the Christmas tree will be the protagonist.

In this way six Christmas rooms will be created where the concept of Christmas and all its characteristic elements will be updated and reinterpreted.

There will be two prizes, one from the public and one from the jury, which will be endowed with 1,000 euros.

Murcia can visit this phase of creating the rooms to follow the evolution of the interventions.

Councilman Jesús Pacheco explained that "Hall 1 of the Artillery Barracks has already completed its rehabilitation works to become the cultural engine of the municipality. Now we are developing this action to enrich the offer of activities during this Christmas in this space."

On Friday the 13th the star 'Octantis' will be inaugurated as well as the different rooms of Hall 1, which will remain open until January 7 so that Murcia and visitors know this artistic intervention and the rehabilitation works that have been developed in the building.
